The battery HTC uses degrades after one year of use and sometimes the voltage drop so much that it cannot even start and/or keep the phone alive.

Get the battery changed and everything will be fine.

Anywhere to change the battery besides the HTC service centre? They quoted me $300+ to change MoBo and battery.

Why need to change Mobo? Battery change is around $80 only.

Just updated my HTC10. Looks good so far. Flicking the screen up down is really fast now, batt seems the same though. And screenshot is now totally silent & no indications you did it until you see it in the gallery.

You could have turned it off. I still get the camera sound and animation after taking screenshot

That's strange. I usually turn sound off, but still get the animation & click when making the screenshot (I used power & home button). This time, nothing. Currently updated to Android 8.0.0.
