Coming from the S8, I absolutely LOVE the U11+.
Only letdown for me is the screen. I am so used to the S8 screen that the U11+ screen seems a step down in terms of clarity for both indoor and particularly worse off outdoor.
But I do not use my phone outdoor all the time so I can live with it. Camera and Audio is a marked upgrade over any phone in the market as of today. I did consider waiting for the S9 but I just was sick of curved glass and Samsung's bloat. Samsung software is stable but just a ton of **** runs in the background for those that you do not even use.
I'm not surprised that people who are used to the display of OLED variants would prefer to have their next one equipped with the same kind of display. People who have issues with over-bright screens would not like the OLED-level bright display unless they see it at a long distance. Daytime usage in my visual perspective for the U11+ surprisingly is pretty okay even at the brightest noon light thanks to the Automatic Brightness feature (which unlike some smartphones with LCD displays, can be used together with your fixed comfortable brightness level, though this means the nits level will be reduced to ensure there's space for adjustment according to ambient surroundings). Samsung's eternal Achilles Heel for its devices will always be the non-essential bloatware as well as the over-sensitive Knox Security Suite that doesn't allow sideloaded apps unless you root the device (and voids any Warranty that comes with it including Concierge).
Well, given the management "crisis" at HTC's HQ in Taipei, things aren't looking brighter anytime soon: HTC's Smartphone Head Chialin Chang Quits - NDTV Gadgets 360 NewsThis is definitely a keeper for a while and I hope HTC does better for their screens on the next release. And HTC Singapore should take their thumbs out of their jive asses and get updates into Singapore quickly. It is stupid that we are still on 1st release software and security updates since launch while others have newer firmware fixing bugs and newer security patches.
