After having read a few posts about shendu os first here and thereafter on xda. I decided to take the plunge because I can't take the lag on the official ICS any longer. I shall describe my process here to help anybody else that is in the similar situation as me.

First, to get the (dload_B929rus.rar) and apply it using the up + down + power after copying the dload folder over to the root of your sd card.

Secondly, to downgrade to (B919_official.7z) just because I hear that its the most stable of the ICS roms.

Then, its on to up + down + power, pink screen, connect to pc to install custom recovery (u8860-recovery-6.0.1.0-touch.7z).

Now, copy shendu OS DEV version and gapps over to your sd card. Boot into custom recovery (up + power) and select to flash shendu os first and thereafter gapps.

It has been a breeze so far, with about a 4-5% battery usage per hour and a lag free experience. I have only experienced 1 freeze to date when I was attempting to uninstall an app. Otherwise, everything seems fine.

Just a note, that I experienced some weird screen/image defects during the initializing phase of whatsapp. This is probably a known problem because whatsapp flashed a warning message about installing onto a custom os when I first started the app.

Enjoy!

My typical reply is - if you don't know what is rooting (in Android context), you probably have no use for it and don't need it.

To my knowledge, it's just playing with the system and CPU speed etc? And able to install non-market apps?

Yes, it is toying more with the system which is not encouraged by Google.

non-markets apps can be installed by turning off a check within the settings.
