I would normally skip the first generation of innovation, especially from a Chinese company.

These chinese companies, especially Huawei, is already at the forefront of innovation. Think about it, dual lens, dual SIM on flagship phone, fastest charging, biggest battery 4K mAh (until now Sammy can't reach that without exploding). Right now the massive deal is a neural network on your phone to do the fast image and other sensor analysis.

The dual lens especially, is now implemented by Andy Rubin the gadget king in the Essential phone - the RGB+monochrome system is superior according to him - but Huawei is already on its 3rd generation.

But understandably, this pace of innovation is not for everyone, but allow us crazy gadget freaks our enjoyment!

Is the future of phones gonna implement AI?
According to the Medium article, the AI is going to be used for:

1) Image enhancement
2) Noise cancellation
3) speech recognition
4) speech enhancement

and other pattern recognition stuff.

Since these are the most important qualities of a phone, so I think the answer is `you betcha'
