What are the differences in camera between pro and non pro?

Mate 20 Pro has a larger sensor of 1/1.7" vs 1/2.3" on the Mate 20. It also has 40MP compared to 12MP. What it basically mean is that it performs better in low light and more details.

The sensor is about twice larger

But the amount of pixels is also 3.33 times more that means individual pixels will be smaller and more prone to noise.

If the mate resolves noise via pixel binning, then the camera is going to be 10MP instead of 40MP, making it a lower-res than the 12MP output

You can toggle between 40 and 10.

But yeah, the default for P20 Pro is indeed 10. 40 has a few features not usable.

Thanks for the confirmation on the hybrid slots. Hmm.. not an issue for me, as the phones I'm using now are all hybrids too. But, that will mean no expansion for me as I used 4 SIM cards on both my phones.

Haizz... Why Samsung can out 2+1 in their J7 phone (budget range) but Huawei can't put it in their flagship?...

But yeah, the default for P20 Pro is indeed 10. 40 has a few features not usable.

I think the P20 even defaults to 10MP when you launch the app at the first time.

The 40MP is definitely there for oversampling purpose, not for you to literally take a photo of that size which is unfeasible for social media sharing and also lower in quality without the binning benefit or other features like night mode or digital zoom.

It's similar to the principle of Sony xperia where their cameras default to Superior Auto mode (8MP) on a sensor around 20MP resolution.
