How do you guys find the camera on the Mate 20?

I had quite a high expectation of the camera and image quality but have been quite disappointed.
- Pictures seem sharp but the moment you zoom in a little, it is a muddy mess (across all three focal lengths). Not sure if it is oversharpened by the software or what.
- when in 2x zoom, the camera view finder flickers sometimes. I realized this happens when the camera can’t decide if it should be using the main camera or the 2x camera.
- the native camera app offers images in either 1:1, 4:3 or 18:9. That’s it. It doesn’t have an option for 16:9 resolution. The 18:9 resolution is basically cropping from the 4:3 image so everything appears a bit more zoomed than possible and makes framing a little odd. i have to shoot using the Lightroom CC camera app if i want things to be in 16:9. But I will lose the versatility of the zoom and ultra-wide angle cameras. Doesn’t help that the LR CC camera app doesn’t make full use of the giant screen.

The above are my opinions, just to start a discussion about your thoughts on the Mate 20’s camera.
I'm having the 2x zoom flicker as well. Whenever I try to zoom in, there will be a 1 sec delay where it takes to change from the primary sensor to the telephoto sensor. Other than that, everything else is fine.

Finally received my new Mate 20 Pro. Loving it so far. However, while playing with the camera, I noticed there are ring of 'dotted lights' when I point the camera near my ceiling lights in my room, and in my room specifically. Anybody knows why? I doubt it's a fault but I would like to make sure.

Another (unrelated) question: Any reliable stores in the West to get a screen protector pasted on? Okonz's store is too far :(

Sorry, yet another issue: My whatsapp isn't showing the names of contacts which I did not save. Anybody knows why?

I went to do a 1 for 1 exchange last month (my phone was the first batch).

The staffs there mentioned that now the screens are from BOE.

Exchanged phone is using BOE screen.

I just checked colleague mate 20 pro and i can see a strong green tints when the background is white (like settings page) on the two screen curve areas. I installed the device info app and verified its also using BOE screen. I am more confused now.

if u have high expectations of the cam then go with the p30 pro and don't compromise. my personal take of the mate 20 cam is it still wins most other cams out there, and considering price vs features, it's a steal.

P30 will have the same cons for the camera if im not wrong.
These are software issue and not hardware limitation.
