yeah, HWZ posts mentioned that Grab, foodpanda all these need google services to work. It's not about installing playstore so easy.
yet so many "I did it to my xxx China phone and it works without any issues"

:s13: such irony that they know how to root and flash custom OS and all but doesn't know how GMS works.

but oh well, since the start of Huawei ban those users already said will continue to buy and use hw phones even without google services.. have Weibo Baidu Tencent waiting for them..

acc to the XDA article, the only reason why sideloading works for China phones like Xiaomi is because they load some stub that will be "updated" with the full version of the Google services... if that stub is not present in the Mate 30, bye bye... and still Google can block

you sure or not.. look at what these people are saying.. :D

Without Google services installed in mate 30, can user simply sideload Google services eg the open Gapps used in many custom ROM?
Without Google apps pre-install is not a big problem if don't mind go through the trouble install google apps manually. As i did for my china rom mipad
how to block, anyway there is OpenKirin AOSP rom project to support and it is optimised for all the Kirin processor phone. M30 should be able to install.
It can work?
I have been installing Google play to xiaomi China rom and Alexa tablets. It is technically not possible for Google to block?

take a look at Xiaomi Redmi Mi9T (Redmi K20) thread, quite a number of people bought china rom, that does not have google. They able to sideload apps, but some services don't work really well, like google pay.

But how true is that when people flash a new global rom to their china based Redmi K20 and works, i cannot confirm.

I have Huawei mate 20x but likely this is my last Huawei phone. Quite risky to buy a premium phone without android support.

1. I tried sideloading on mipad and not everything works. My calendar definitely don't work

2. China apps are pretty good but they are blocked in SG. Some cannot work or is not as good. Try using baidu to search English and try baidu map instead of Google map in SG.

3. How do u communicate with ur friends? Go back to SMS days?

Without Google, I think Huawei need years to move to Google playstore level. Until them, it is a risk

google cannot block with the open Gapps. i have an old asus laser 2 which already considered a discontinued product. as such, some of the apps were block by Google as they are considered incompatible. can't even see those apps in google play. what i did was unlocked the bootloader, flashed custom rom and open gapps. after that, google play can see all those previously considered incompatible apps and i can download and install on the device.

the question now is whether huawei now starts to allow users to unlock the bootloader of the phone which they previously ban it.

but in the first place, do it even have an app for SMS? Like what you ssaid about even sideloading apps, apps do not really run smoothly. I've experienced that in tvboxes. They are using open-source android, but not licensed by google.

Guess, you have to rely on either Google Pixel or Samsung

no way to root Huawei. and Huawei bootloader is locked so cannot install custom ROM.

also, the open Gapps works with custom ROMs because Google allows them to work. I think Google has some kind of whitelist. On the other hand, if you sideload them on an unlicensed device that's not running a custom ROM, you get a notice saying the manufacturer is unlicensed and it refuses to run.

if Google elects to somehow allow Huawei to run sideloaded, well then good. if Google blocks, there's nothing we can do.

such a pity that the true innovation of mate 30 series is being hinder due to GMS issue...if ever US can lift the ban, it will be tough time for mate 30s series to be accepted outside china fully

seems it's going to be released in China on September 26. Will see developments then.
