what is the point of having the black n white cam ah?

got ppl take black n white photo everyday one meh?:s22:

wah.. nice photos..

but black n white can just use filter right? how come need a special lens ah?:s11:

can shoot color first then convert to monochrome?

if i may provide some info... using p9 as an example [since am using it]

personally am another one [besides jimmy tong above] who shoots b/w regularly

b/w is especially useful for street photography, when you want to remove distractions and view a photo's composition, or a person's expression in a photo

the mate 9 [and p9] uses 2 sensors, one colour, one monochrome [not special lens]

can we shoot in colour then convert to b/w? yes, definitely, but the result is different. For example, google online for p9 vs honor 8 comparisons; you will see that the honor 8 uses a filter instead of shooting directly with the monochrome sensor, and the resulting photos look different

using a monochrome sensor also means "removing the traditional colour filters in a typical RGB image sensor, the light will hit the image sensor at full spectrum, unfiltered, allowing the image sensor to collect full information with minimal losses."

Robin Wong's blog post explains it better than me and with many comparison photos; do take a look

just got my Mate9 today... coming from BB Priv.
This is a solid phone for it's price.
I got it at Starhub reseller @ Nex for only $39 via 4g 4 plan and CIS.
Comes with Smart cover and color band as well... super good deal.
Was $239 last week without gifts...

Hey... Have u all experienced WhatsApp msg delayed prob. Everytime I must click the app only those messages appear. I tried to reinstall.. still getting this prob. Help?!

delayed whatsapp notification seems to be a ongoing issue for china brand phones; this was what i changed on the p9 previously; hope this is useful for mate9 users
  1. Advanced settings->Battery manager->Protected apps, can set which apps remain in memory (and which gets closed)
  2. in recent apps, drag down whatsapp, u should see a "padlock" appear
  3. in advanced settings->battery manager->protected apps, turn on for whatsapp
  4. in settings->apps->whatsapp->notifications, enable priority display
  5. Settings --> Apps --> Advanced (At the bottom of the screen) --> Ignore Optimisations --> Check that Whatsapp is Allowed
  6. Settings > Apps > Whatsapp > Battery > Turn on System Wakeup, App auto-launch and Keep running after screen off

but frankly, huawei should try to solve this once & for all; like a setting to deactivate all battery saving at one go

wow! i've not really checked but the last i noticed (when i slept at 100%), woke up to be 80%. my wifi is turned on.

Mine with wifi on, 3g/Bluetooth/GPS/sync off drain overnight over 7-8 hours is about 4%.
You must had lots of wakelocks in background with such a high drain

Thanks for explaining.. I saw one part in the blog that says that the b/w lens also provide more clarity for the color mode..

As I'm usually only takes color photos.. Anyone tried b4 taking a color photo while covering the b/w lens.. N see if got any difference?

Seriously.... is that a deal breaker for you?

Why not hang around for another 2 months for the release of OppO r9s... it supposedly has a better cam

yes it does make a difference; for safety, camera software will warn you that the b/w sensor is blocked
