But I think it has to be connected to the telco first right?

Tried using a Taiwan sim card but not connected to the telco since there's no roaming. Updater didn't detect anything.

Yours is a local set? When I updated mine the sim is not even active, no connection at all.

My SIM had been inactive since 2015.

Try a SEA SIM.

Yeah mine Taiwan sim card without any connection, local mate 9.

Can't seem to get update, let me go hunt around for msia/Thailand sim card instead.
