Can't wait to see and get my hands on this myself! I must admit, from the images and reviews that I have seen, I love the design. It's compact and beautiful in a subtle and professional way unlike its competitors. Not glossy and shiny, not a fingerprint magnet, and not slippery. I much prefer the looks of this over the Samsung S7, LG G5, Xiaomi Mi5, and HTC 10.

The more reviews I read the more excited I am about the camera setup. Quality seems very good, up their with the best, but also offers some new and creative options.

The few concerns I have are:
- battery life should be better given the 1080p display
- not a fan of the EMUI, kind of hides all the MM UI improvements (and may be affecting the battery life)
- no NFC is a shame unless you import the single-sim variant
- front camera is fixed-focus apparently (not sure what difference that makes)
- recording video is pretty poor (hope they can fix with s/w update?)
- no fast charging (has rapid charging, what's the difference?)
- dual sim is only 4G+2G so essentially useless if travelling to countries with no 2G such as Japan and S.Korea, and will be useless in Singapore next year
- 64GB version (that supports most bands) only in Haze Gold
- 32GB dual-sim and single-sim support different bands (single-sim may be more useful so may need to import)

So, which one to pick? I'll be travelling between Japan, S.Korea, and Singapore a lot in the coming year so dual-sim is useless. In terms of network support, the 4GB/64GB variant is best but there is no way I'm buying a gold phone. Sigh... otherwise I really like this phone.

I hope it's on display soon.

Hi SZQddy,

I'm afraid the choice to make is easier or more difficult than you make it sound. Depends on you.

I guess, if I wanted a phone it would be like what you said - have a feature comparison and make my choice, something like that. But when I picked up the P9 64GB version all that went out of the window. And the choice became more of an emotional one.

First that stuff they were talking about the metal of the phone being machined in a totally new way compared to previous phones? That has to be felt to be understood. This phone feel like no other. It's like a piece of jewellery. It feels fantastic in the hand. Reviewers better than me have tried to say this, but I don't think they managed.

And when I took pictures with this phone, I looked at the pictures and ... a feeling came back. The same feeling as when I look at pictures I took with my DSLR and my X100 (poor man's Leica) compared to the snapshots I am taking now with my smartphone. I remember when I had my real camera I actually wanted to take photographs like they were art, but when I used more and more cellphone cameras I gave up the art and went for snapshots.

And when I saw the pictures taken by the P9, I knew that I captured the X100 feeling again. I wanted to take beautiful pictures because, hey, now the smartphone can take beautiful pictures, I can continue my photography and not my snapshot ways.

So I'm definitely going for the dual Leica cameras. Everything else in this Huawei phone is good enough compared to the other flagships, but the other flagships don't make the special photos which give me the feeling I need to get my photography itch back.

And this time I can have 2 Leicas without breaking the bank.

was hoping to upgrade to a phone with good camera capabilities and no need the hassle to bring a separate P&S camera. looks like this might be the one.

Availability will hurt Huawei. But of course they will never sell well here no matter how good their phones are world beating. Local buyers are brand whores.

Looks like the low light capability is not that good. P9 also only supports up to 1080p. I am quite certain N6P can do better in low light than this.

This is not entirely true as most people that frequent HWZ read the forums but are never really satisfy with a phone and use it for a long time, hence they tend to "phone hop" a lot. Nexus is made by Huawei and see how well it sell? The Huawei UI are not that great to begin with so I dont know why they dont just stick to vanilla android and push updates as quickly as possible.

This itself would be a great selling point but instead they tried the UI that mimic iOS and the likes of MIUI. If I want iOS look, I'll go for fruit phone but the reason I get android is to get away from iOS! Take a look at OPO with cyanogenOS, it was selling like hot cakes because of the vanilla android look but with tweaks. the OPT however wasnt that great after they broke up with Cyanogen and use their own OxyenOS/HydrogenOS but even with competitive pricing so it tells you that developers plays a big role in phones too. The development scene like XDA plays a big role here.

To those that is not into such scene, they will just pick a phone that everyone owns, which majority are either Samsung phones or iPhones because thats what they know.

deckcard, I am talking about majority of users. people reading hardwarzones are still minority of buyers, even if a lot of hwz readers buy Huawei. We tech-heads search the universe to find the best phone we like, but a common buyer just walks into a Telco store. then he will be escorted by a Samsung or apple sales. lol.
