MT not off day lol

I think among the prerelease phones there is some variation in picture quality. Some user phones will surface these few days and we'll see the quality.

For this phone to achieve dslr quality you need to have a sharp picture. Sharp picture on this phone blows every other phone out of the picture because the picture merging benefit is maxed out with sharp image . But once you blur the picture the gain in quality is not much hence it will be a normal cellphone picture. This explains some blogger people had not so good pictures, but most of the professionals with trained rock steady hands had good pictures.

There are some tweaks which might have been implemented in later production phones, but not confirmed.

deckcard, I am talking about majority of users. people reading hardwarzones are still minority of buyers, even if a lot of hwz readers buy Huawei. We tech-heads search the universe to find the best phone we like, but a common buyer just walks into a Telco store. then he will be escorted by a Samsung or apple sales. lol.

you are so right. From a consumer point of view, they would want something with branding rather then a phone of good quality but with lesser branding.

There are also other concerning factors to get a less branded phone. Eg:after sale support(availability of service centers), firmware update frequency, resale value. Of course these factors can be subjective to different users but if one can achieve most of it, many will get it.

I note the discussion on the herd mentality of buying fruit and Samsung. TBH I think this is an oversimplification. Witness the rise of Redmi few years ago, from unknown. Also see the rise of Huawei worldwide especially in Europe, how incredible it was that the are now top 3 in 10-15 EU countries. See Huawei in the middle east including UAE and the rich oil states.

And things in Singapore doesn't stay the same. Sooner or later people will realise that the S$1K fruit phone is expensive especially if wanna save money don't sign contract. They would want more value.

The P9 is different. I don't know about you. But the P9 made me remember the smooth images with great dynamic range. It's not going to be super easy to use - you need to be steady with your hand. You need to frame the image nicely. It's not going to pop the color and sacrifice dynamic range, and you may have to edit some shots.

The camera allows you to modify it to Samsung settings lol .... but I'm going to use it as Leica intended and steady my hand and let my imagination, not the equipment, take centre stage.

But I'm buying it because of 2 reasons only. Even if I don't sell Huawei, I will buy because of these 2 reasons I assure you:

1) the beautiful build. It is better built than Iphone. When you see and touch you will know. I can't describe here and neither have reviewers.

2) The Leica camera - It has Leica all over it. When you deal with the raw you will see Leica properties - the idiosyncrasies of the DNG file is same as a leica like the M240 raw. The pictures look Leica-ish, the way a Leica compact will feel like. It's a magical property - you sacrifice some things but you get images which are full of feel.

Anyway, let me share some pics in the near future by some pros and you'd see.

But one thing's for sure, I'm not satisfied with oversaturated low dynamic range snapshots anymore now. I'm waiting for my new phone!

Yea but I believe most people take into consideration an S have better resale value than other brands for Android phone..

Yup, exactly, wrong device to buy if bother about resale value. Stick with either fruit or song.

MT, your love for photography is admirable. I love photography myself (well at least when I was younger without the "baggages"), I understand where you are coming from. But I still do not quite believe a phone's camera can replace my DSLR so I will always lug a camera when travelling. Hence a phone camera to me will only be for snapshots. Granted I will still keep an open mind when more reviews are out and judge it later.

The attraction on the iPhone is simplicity. Android is complicated and cumbersome to those that are use to the iPhone's simplicity so the market for Apple will always be there.
Despite how Android phones have the best of best hardware, blah blah. I still see people going back to their iPhone because it is simple and things just works out of the box. Very few bugs as compared to android that needs to support the hundreds & thousands of different brands and hardware.

Back on topic, my only grip on Huawei phone is the OS, if they have great battery life, vanilla android with light tweaks, fast updates, great camera, fast fingerprint sensor, it is a no brainer.

Really looking forward to getting this. Hoping it's out before the end of April as I will be travelling a lot from May.

Also noticed that there are a few China domestic models, the EVA-AL10 being the top-end and supporting most bands. Also comes in nicer colours such as the ceramic white! Much prefer this over the haze gold, although prefer the feel and look of the sandblasted metal in the silver version. :o

Trying to compare the specs between the EVA-L29 and EVA-AL10...

May even get the single-sim EVA-L09 as that will support NFC!

Any guestimation on Singapore arrival other than "soon"? I'm getting impatient =:p
