You can slowly save up and contact me by then. I may not have sold it by then and the price could be lower than my original. Alternatively, take loan from someone (other than loan shark) and then do installment plan

Hokay! Perhaps PM the contact number/email?

I'll contact you by then.

It's been a bit quite here. How's everyone's DX100 holding up?

Has anyone updated their firmware to the latest one and liking it more than the original?

Function-wise, latest version is better, SQ-wise, I agree with some others that the older version is better. I had already downgraded mine to v1.0.3

hi Randius, hopefully iBasso will deliver the best of both worlds in the next firmware update. :)

[Kiddy rant] Was hoping can save up for the DX100 to work hand in hand with my soon to arrive Miracle.

Turns out mom got news about the price I spent on the UM and now getting lecture and have to let go a reserved DX100 set.

Might save up for the next 3rd or even 4th batch liao.

If your goal is to acheive great sound

If your goal is to hear great sounding music then the DX100 will be worth every penny.

Portable

I have a similar experience after doing a half hour audition with my buddy's DX100.

Was intending to buy the DX100 thinking that it will be better than my HM-801. As usual gadget person's bad habit, thinking that new gadget should always be better than old one.

Tested same songs with DX100 and HM-801 and concluded that I can keep my 801 and save the money for other gadgets (ordered a new 801 spare battery and charger).

Maybe my own ears preference, but it is very difficult to find a DAP that can play songs and music with analogue sounds - which only HM-801 comes very close to it, yet with details and soundstage. DX100 is very analytical and clear, but it is like most modern players. If you already have a good iPod, you can probably try out the Fostex HP-P1 or CLAS, as they both generate very analytical and clean sound and good soundstage.

Sold my Fostex quite sometimes back so can't do direct comparison, but to me, HM-801 sounds nicer and smoother.

Anyway, if you are upgrading from a iPod, you will definitely not be disappointed with DX100. It is one of the best DAP available, and you can't get a HM-801 any more since it is out of production now!

I bet there are many ways to get a close or even better sound then the DX100 but for me besides having the goal of a great sounding player I wanted a one piece (unit) portable player. I did not want to carry around while I am walking 2.5 hrs or more each day various pieces of equipment and have to buy good cables to connect them and be recharing many units every other day. The DX100 for me was a great choice as a portable player and on many occasions is a great player at home.

Hey Randius I saw you in Head Fi. I was banned for not agreeing that Aurisonics was as good as they say it was. Too bad about your issues and I understand. this hobby is not cheap.

Crazy because I never encountered this before. I myself never heard those earphones and all I did was repeat what others have posted and pow! Banned but so were they. Something about inserting tissue paper in the earphones to make them sound better.

Hiflight of iBasso Topkit fame now owns a Altmann Tera-Player and commented that when both are playing .wav files, the ATP sounds better than DX100 and all other players he owns/owned. That's quite a compliment but the price is still too ridiculous.

A nice compliment and he comparing it to a great player but the one he feels sounds better on WAv which it only plays is very under powered, no EQ, and very over priced.

A big issue with the DX100

A lot of people were waiting and asking for the release of the DX100 and when it was released it was released without any manual, no advice how to play it, store music, etc. So for the first two months there were a lot of questions, frustrations and worry about the DX100. Even though many of these owners were troubled and frustrated all (Ok I cant ever say all but most well more then most) have always said the sound coming from it was great. Now after a upgrade in firmware and many people posting their own findings on how to run it and setting the settings issues about the DX100 has calmed down. Still aint perfect but it is moving forwards.

This is great progress.

On second thought, I think I might be getting this in July, be it 1st hand or 2nd.

Time to unbar my budget limit and take the dive, it's too poisonous.

I know some guys with this combo and they love it.

As an added push, the DX100 does improve the enjoyment of music across low to high-end headphone gears i've tried. to varying degrees of course, but it makes the DX100 worth the price tag since.
