Can anyone enlighten me about how a software update can affect the sound coming out of the dx100? Shouldn't the sound coming out be affected by the hardware only? I'm a newb :(

software update can affect the way the SQ is presented.
just like how the same balanced armature can be tuned to certain signatures.

unfortunately, the new software update isn't working out for quite a few guys.

Does the software update change the eq or just the sound coming out from the player? Cuz the idea of changing the sound thru software update just boggles my mind

both EQ (less significant) and SQ (very significant) changed.

Really isn't a surprise. Almost all gears we use and listen to, have some form of tuning in sound signature and presentation. Treat it like some customization to cater to a brand.

Kinda like Android phones out there now. All running same OS but HTC had Sense and Samsung has TouchWizard.

after reading the forum on head-fi, gonna wait a while more before trying, seems the process of updating is more buggy than the end result. :s8:

not much mention of any improvements made also.

iBasso just made firmware v1.17 available for download. Seems like there is no problem installation this time and some of the problems introduced in v1.16 are now fixed. Will try it out later.

Hi, just got a Ibasso DX100. Noticed that it gets rather warm while using. Is this normal (I noticed the same on Android phones as well) for android devices? Anyone has similar experience? Thanks in advance.

Hi, which version are you referring to? My DX100 is version 1.1 and I noticed on Ibasso website there was version 1.17 which can't work when I clicked on it to try to download. Also, any manual?

Hi all, finally managed to read through all the posts in this thread.

The DX100 is very poisonous indeed.

I listen mostly to female vocal and classical music and thus compared my experience basis these genre.

Before that, I tried the Colorfly C4. It was good, but wasn't impressed with the sound as it didn't sound better than my iHifi 812V2. I auditioned it with my TF10 and microSD card with FLAC and WAV files. Hifiman 801 was not available for audition (discontinued).

Incidentally, I heard about iBasso and while browsing through the web, I came across DX100 and noted it was sold at Stereo. Went down with my DAP for a trial and was hooked after the comparison. I would say, SQ wise my 812V2 was almost similar. Where DX100 excel and exceeded the 812V2 was in areas of soundstage and control in complex passages.

Because of that, I would rate my 812V2 at 80-85% of DX100 (but at about a third of the cost).

I did consider Sony Z1050 (or was it Z1070), but problem is, it cannot expand memory. Cowon Z2 was considered also but the dealer attitude was bad. Anyway I was thinking, if the 812V2 was already on par with Colorfly (to me only), I didn't expect that I can be satisfied with any else other than the DX100. So finally, made the decision to get the DX100 from Stereo.

Above just my views.

You have a ihifi 812v2? How is that player? Very rare in singapore i think..

I'll probably go stero and demo the dx100 to compare with my studio v soon. Out of my budget though :(

Hi, yes I have the iHiFi 812V2. As mentioned above, SQ wise very very similar with DX100. Where DX100 won was in the areas of sound stage, imaging and refinement.

If anyone is still not on 1.1.7, I suggest you do it now!

I finally found time to sit down and play with it for a while.

I downgraded from 1.1.0 to 1.0.3 as I felt the highs was a little too much.

1.1.7 has a much wider and natural staging. Better instrument separation, natural timbre and placement.

I can't seem to find anything else I want to change at this moment.

Interface is more responsive. No more slow loading when powering up.
