Hi guys,need some help.

I am intending to upgrade my current HDD 7200rpm to a Seagate Momentus XT.Saw it in action on a friend's notebook and its really fast.

Question is,can i just use my recovery disc to boot up the Momentus XT?I have nothing much in my current HDD so a fresh factory copy is fine with me.

My main concern is if this does not work, how do i copy my entire drive over including the hidden ThinkVantage partition?

Oh,how many recovery disc do you guys have?I created my recovery disc using the Thinkvantage wizard but i only have 1 disc.Is it right?

Your questions..

1.can i just use my recovery disc to boot up the Momentus XT?
Depends on what model you have as certain models uses a thinner HDD. Example x200 uses a 7mm HDD and the T420 uses a 10mm HDD.

2. how do i copy my entire drive over including the hidden ThinkVantage partition?
It will definitely work by installing using factory recovery disk.If you want to copy the entire driver over including hidden partition you can use Acronis True Image Home 2011.

3.I created my recovery disc using the Thinkvantage wizard but i only have 1 disc.Is it right?
No its not right. There should be 4 dvds. 1st disc is the boot disc,2nd and 3rd is the operating system and the 4rd disc is the drivers and application disk. If i am not wrong if the system is a 32bit there will be 3 disc and if its a 64bit OS then it should be 4 disc.

It is available....but after you select the warranty and check out, there are no payment options for you to proceed.... :s11:

Appears that you have to speak to a customer representative to purchase it.

So if i were to use my recovery disc to boot up the new hdd, will it automatically create the hidden partition?

what i meant is if after checking out your thinkpad with one year warranty (Depot) and u shipped it to Singapore...den for God knows reason u decide to extend the warranty for the machine u purchased from the states... u go to any vendor and try to purchase the warranty upgrade...it might not be successful. Cos Lenovo SG don't exactly entertain that already. So if u want a 3 years warranty what i suggest in my earlier post is buy it when u purchase your thinkpad from the US website.:s22:

Hey Guys, my T400's screen suddenly started flicking for no apparent reason. However, after I pressed on the black and flatten cable that connect the LCD to the Motherboard, the image stopped flicking. After restarting the laptop, the same old flicking effect will return?

To make things worst, the warranty just ended a week ago. Based on the above signs, I suspect that it would the cable that connect the LCD and MB went bogus. Is there anybody in this forum repair the lcd cable issue or somewhere that I can buy the cable so I can self repair it.

Bring it in to the service centre ASAP. 1 week I think can negotiate with them to grant you the warranty.

I am not sure about the newer X120e. But the old model loses out to the Intel counterparts on the battery life (comparing machines with similar battery capacity) and also responsiveness.

Go direct to Lenovo at Changi Business Park better.

Although it is abit further but I think they are in a better position to grant you the warranty or not given that the warranty just expired less than 1 month.

So does it mean that if we register with amazon checkout, we are able to use our Sg registered credit cards to purchase on the lenovo us website?
