X220 users, there is a new BIOS out, v1.26. Installed it via Thinkvantage Toolbox.

(New) Allow to enable WWAN and WLAN device simultaneously.
Fix) Fixed an issue that might not resume from suspend state with combination of specific CPU and BIOS setting for Intel Hyper-Threading Technology.
(Fix) Fixed an issue where the maximum number of failed password attempts for WMI was not 3.
(Fix) Fixed an issue that error message is displayed when system is undocked from slicer.

UEFI anyone?

For x220 owners:
Has anyone tried utilising UEFI instead of BIOS?

I tried doing a WIN7 x64 clean install on my X220.. spent half a day trying to get it working.. and keep on getting messages : IRQL_less_than_EQUAL fatal error..

in the end .. gave up and reverted back to the normal BIOS setting..

Seems to quite a process. I have not personally done so but a quick search brings these links up:

Q: New X220 - Legacy or UEFI BIOS ?

Cheers!

hi thinkpad owners:
i'm thinking of getting the T420 (i5-2520M with nvidia 1gig) which was announced almost a year ago.

based on past experience, how often does the T series (or Thinkpads) typically get new models?
Is it common to have a "series refresh" every year? or even half a year?
i understand it's not possible to predict, but i'm hoping someone has some "idea" about this.

it's a concern to me because i'm intending to use this for a few years at least, and because i dont mind waiting a couple of months or more if it means a significant jump in hardware specs.

thanks in advance.

I think usually once a year. In the middle, there will be specifications upgrade to keep the series dated.

i'm planning to get the thinkpad from retail store and upgrading the ram on the spot (from 4gig to 8 gig probably) so that i dont have to go through the hassle of selling ram sticks.

are ram upgrade prices standard? does it matter which store / chain i go to?

It really depends on the base configuration. Some models come packed with 1 piece of 4GB RAM while some is packed with 2 X 2GB RAM.

So in order to upgrade to 8GB, some retail shop may just have to plugged in 1 piece of 4GB to make it 8GB while some model may need to replace the 2 X 2GB with 2 X 4GB in order to get your desire configuration.

The price are pretty much standard. However, if you are afraid, then you may want to get the rough idea of how much does 1 piece of 4GB cost by getting it from Sim Lim Square. From there when you try to bargain with the retail store, you can make a rough gauge as to whether it is worthwhile for them to do the memory upgrade for you.

Cheers!

No, different shops charge you differently.

Bargainfor free upgrade if possible, else, just head down to SLS and buy the RAMs. Usually it is much cheaper to upgrade it yourself than to get it done together when you purchase your laptop.
