can anyone recommend a shop at sim lim to buy sata 3 and also the msata. I intend to change my main HDD To sata 3 and have msata for additional capacity

Anyone aware if x220 able to upgrade to 16gb,8x2.
Correct me if I am wrong.

You might not see a performance gain even if you slot in a SATA 3 disk as the X220 chipset only supports SATA 2 (having a SATA 3 disk will still work just that it will run at SATA 2 speed).

I think the max RAM for the X220 is 8GB (ie. to say its 2 x 4GB).

There are guys who are using 2x8GB (16GB) RAM sticks but it is quite uncommon due to the high price of 8GB sticks.

And ys, X220 supports SATA3 HDDs, only mSATA interface does not support SATA3, only SATA2.

And I do not know of any shops that sell mSATA SSDs. I had to order mine from USA, myDigitalSSD. Not as fast as the Intel mSATA but has a bigger capacity. I bought the 128GB version.

Why arent you able to see diff ? mSata only support sata 2 where else Sata 3 is supported for primary.

And Maximum mem is not 8GB.

Btw, not sure what Lenovo laptop you have but just to take note, the X220 takes 7.5mm HDD/SSD.

I've got a question, its about an old Thinkpad battery. I have a Thinkpad T400, its a couple of years old, but I don't intend to get rid of it anytime soon. I am thinking of buying the 9 cell battery as an addition for me to be able to bring out my laptop without bringing the charger.

Lenovo - Singapore (SG) | computer accessories | batteries & power | 43R2499

Does anyone know the pricing of this battery because it doesn't seem to be stated in the website at all.

mine is x220 too

Initially i was quite confused about 9mm and 7mm thingy. After sometime of considerations, purchased an OCZ agility SSD, installed to my x200s and all works fine. The SSD is fitted perfectly into the slot without additional bracket needed. So i guess all Sata2/3 form factor are fine for IBM x series. ( i do read from internet that Intel520 series cannot be fitted to x series ). After couple of months, I swapped this SSD into my Toshiba Portege R731 without any problem. So I am rather confirm SSD form factor is standard. Hope thats help.

No, x220 uses a slimmer drive bay as compared to other x series thinkpads.

Hence only ssd with slim housing eg. Intel G2/320 with the bracket removed, or a ssd with 7mm height in the specifications, will fit.

Bought a ThinkPad Business Topload Case (US49) from US but do not like it, not enough space to stuff all my gears. Used 1 day only.

Anyone interested please PM me. :o

The M4 seems to be a popular choice. But too bad, the capacity is not enough for me, hence I went with the mSATA SSD and a 320gb HDD configuration.

Try contacting Lenovo resllers such as AddOn/Juzz1 to see if they have the pricing for this.

I seem to be having a problem with the Intel SpeedStep setting with my x201!

When I enable Intel SpeedStep in the BIOS and set AC Mode to High Performance, even when I am connected to the adaptor, my CPU clock speed will only go up to 1.33GHz. When it is idle, it will be stuck at 1.2GHz (i.e. the processor will only go into these two clock states - 1.2GHz and 1.33GHz). This is in spite of the fact that the Power Manager settings are set to Maximum Speed for the processor setting.

If I disable Intel SpeedStep in the BIOS, my CPU clock speed will be stuck at 2.53GHz no matter what setting I enter into the Power Manager (e.g. adaptive, low speed).

Wondering if anyone has faced this problem and how do I rectify it? Or is there something wrong with the hardware? Thanks! :o
