The CPU of T40 can be swapped out and change to Dothan up to 2.1 Ghz with no hardware complications. Just wait for ebay and the price of CPU to drop further. I hope the biometric finger print palm rest can be integrated to T40.

Bluetooth on R51

Hi, I just got a Thinkpad R51 model 1829-J8Y. It´s supossed to have built-in BT capabilities. The thing is I can´t get BT to work...I believe I should see something like "Bluetooth Integrated Controller" in Device Manager ->Network Adapters, but I don´t.
I am running WinXp Pro SP1. I have already tried IBM downloads, but they do nothing.
One funny thing is that IBM BT patches instalation instructions quote "turn Bluetooth power on/off" but I can´t find an key combo to do it...let alone a switch. The next best thing I found is Fn+F5, but it only allows me to enable/disable Wi-Fi (working fine, thank God).

By the way, I have blue tray icon with a red capital "B" in it. When I put the pointer on it it displays "BT on <<COMPUTER_NAME>>" and when I right click it shows "BT device not found". I really don´t know wheather this means it can´t find any BT device to connect to or if it can´t recognize the notebook itself as a BT device.

Any advice on how to enable this gadget?

Thanks in advance.

According to IBM website, you have no bluetooth in this model...
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/quickPath.do?quickPathEntry=1829j8y

Product: ThinkPad R51 1829-J8Y
Original description: P M 715, 256MB RAM, 40GB 4200rpm HDD, 14.1 XGA(1024x768) TFT LCD, 32MB ATI Radeon 7500, 24x24x24x/8x CD-RW/DVD, Intel 802.11b/g wireless(MPCI), Modem(CDC), 1Gb Ethernet(LOM), UltraNav, Secure Chip, IEEE 1394, 6 cell Li-Ion battery, WinXP Pro

The bluetooth icon on your taskbar, is it dark blue with RED logo? if so, there's no device or driver not installed.
Is there also the bluetooth logo LED next to the wireless LED?

BM boosts ThinkPad antivirus technology
T43 model can be restored even if main OS is corrupted
Robert Jaques, vnunet.com 19 Jan 2005

IBM today unveiled what it claims is its fastest performing thin-and-light notebook computer, the ThinkPad T43, which boasts newly developed layered virus protection technology.

The high-end business notebook ships with Big Blue's Rescue and Recovery 2.0 application suite contained in an embedded pre-boot emergency system. This is designed to restore the PC even if the main operating system has already been corrupted by a worm or virus.

It features IBM's Antidote Delivery Manager, which is designed to help IT departments protect notebooks against viruses and worms by simplifying the deployment of critical updates. It sets policies so that the PC retrieves and installs updates quickly.

The T43 also contains IBM's ThinkPad Power Manager utility which gives users control over the thermal management of their notebook, specifically the processor speed and the speed of the fan that cools the processor.

Power Manager includes additional options that let users create battery schemes tailored for their specific computing needs.

Based on Intel's latest Centrino architecture, codenamed Sonoma, the T43 also incorporates Intel's 915 Express chipset together with Pro/Wireless 2195ABG or 2200BG network connections.

The notebook supports up to 2GB DDR2 533MHz system memory, up to 80GB hard drive capacity and has one Express Card slot and one PC Card slot.

The ThinkPad T43 notebook will be available in March for an estimated price starting at £1,600.

X20, X30 and X40 all use different batteries... hence they cannot shared the batteries across the other range
