get the thinkpad since its 3 years, 3 years vs 1 year warranty a lot of difference.

This is not true.

There are retailers who provided ThinkPad branded system with 1 year on-site, next business day (NBD), 3 years on-site NBD and 3 years on-site 4 hours response 24/7.

The above provides retailers space for promotion (e.g. free upgrade of warranty).

To me, it is not expensive to buy a $2388 X200 with 3 years on-site NBD @ 1.5KG. The reliability and service is more than worth it.

Anyway I paid $2138 for 3 years on-site 24/7 4 hours response plus 3 years ThinkPad Protection for a 2.66Ghz/4GB/320GB/wifi n system. Do not think can be found now.

So wait for the new deals for i3/i5 systems.

You got your X200 through academic promotion?

By request...note that the ad is cropped. There was another model featured on top - thinkpad edge...bleh

how come it seems to be more expensive than the price that it had put up on their lenovo website?

Thinking of getting the T510 for school usage, looks good for the price.
Does this particular model have switchable graphics card?

On second thought, i think i would look into the T410s instead...

Depends on your usage. The T410s does not come with discrete graphics, only the Intel GMA HD. So if you intend to play games (like a lot of my students in poly) then the T410 would be more appropriate. Of course battery life would not be as long though. Then again, most of my students almost never bring their batteries, since a power socket is always available and adds weight to their bags. :s13:

IT Show is coming up in 2 weeks, so that would a good time to check out the deals. They had pretty good deals last time during the PC SHOW, maxed out ram and hdd with lots of freebies like mice, external hdd, bags...blah...

BTW, I noticed that the configs in the recent ads didnt mention anything about wifi...same for those online...its strange.

Thanks for the elaborate reply and by T410s, I meant T410. I did not know that there were two different models. What about the T510? I want something with a larger screen so that my eyes would not hurt from prolonged usage. You mentioned something about your students so I can infer that you are a teacher in a polytechnic? In that case, should I wait for the roadshows from the polytechnics or get it outside?

Bro - where do you plan to get it? How much for T410 and which specs?

I plan to get it wherever that has the best deals. I think I am looking at the T410 more which is priced at $2,578.00 at the Lenovo website itself. The specifications looks good for both work and play.

Actually, the T510 has a 15.6 screen that come in a variety of resolutions 1366×768 (HD), 1600×900 (HD+) , and 1920×1080 (full HD) natively. HD+ is probably a good size, full HD will display fonts really small, which may strain your eyes in a long run. In this case, big does not mean better. :s22: Up to your personal preference really, best is to see a demo set.

Which school are you from? Not all polytechnics offer thinkpads. I know that SP does, while RP does not . Not sure about TP, NYP or NP.

I personally feel that the IT fair would not be much of a difference from buying from stores.
They might just be clearing old stocks from before.

I am currently using a 20" monitor and I am afraid that I would not be used to smaller screens. I am going to be a future SP student by the way and wondering whether to get the laptop there or not.

You fancy lugging a monster notebook to school everyday, climbing up and down stairs all the time? Haha. I'm using a T61p and its already killing my back. Makes me envious of my wife's X200. Can't imagine my students who drag their W500 to school everyday. :s13:

I think you should wait for the poly roadshows. Usually at those roadshows, prices are better with better specs too.

Are there any cons buying from the roadshows?
Cons is sometimes they do not have ex-stock and you got to wait for the stock to arrive. Also, you got to make payment strictly by either Cash/NETS/Cheque/Laptop Loan (provided by finance company with interest). No Credit Card payments etc.

RP does offer Thinkpads however certain models such as the W500 were not available last year.

Ngee Ann Poly sells the full range of Thinkpads.

If you are from SP, dont worry about immediate Thinkpad stocks. The stocks held at the campus are all reserved for year 1 students(existing students have to wait for factory delivery)

Of course the stocks may run out so you should head down and purchase during the first few days or so.
