Hi,

Just wondering What's the different between the X201i, X201 & X201s other than the processor speed?

And from the website, they state that the X201s does come with a optical DVD drive, is it internal or external?
The x201i comes with a 7200rpm hdd, would it be good to get such a fast hdd and will it consume more batt life?

Lastly, I read in a few USA website that the i7 chipset x201s is cheaper than the i5 x201, is it true?

What's the price you paid for your x201 and what's the freebies?

The local x201s specs previously came with a WXGA+ screen, while all other variants came with the WXGA only. Seems like the higher resolution screen is not available anymore. If you compare the local specs, the basic difference between the x201i, x201 and x201s is the processor speed.

The specs for the x201s is also a little sktechy. They mentioned a dvd-rom, but my guess is that its a usb external, else they would have mentioned the ultrabase and ultrabay. Sorry, cant help you there. Maybe you can call and ask.

BTW - Am letting go a brand new X201 here in the notebook marketplace do check it out if you are interested

My T61 is emitting a somewhat-loud noise that i suspect comes from the CPU fan. I changed the fan abt 2 years into its warranty, so I'm quite surprised that its giving me problems again. Now that my warranty has expired, what should I do? should I DIY and add oil or something?

My X200's battery is starting to hold lesser and lesser charge nowadays but the price of a new battery from Lenovo seems to be quite expensive.

If I use a 'compatible' (read: fake) battery, what are the possible consequences? Will I spoil the laptop itself or the worst case scenario is unable to use the fake battery?

In case it matters, the compatible battery I am intending to purchase is from dealextreme.com. Just search 'X200' in the search bar on the website and the batteries should appear.

X100 is a light usage notebook similar to a netbook. It is not a full fledged notebook so to speak

I have T61 still running Win XP Pro. It was on Vista before I "downgraded" it thru Lenovo Win XP downgrade program.

You wont damage the laptop but however, power manager will prompt you that you are using a non-original battery. Not sure if unistalling power manager will bypass this prompt or not though.

I happen to have both 6cell and 9cell batteries. Those listed on DX does not conform to the specs of the orignal 6 and 9 cell. While it may not cause any damage to your X200, you are not getting the capacity of the originals.

6cell - 10.8V, 5.2AH, 56.2Whr. Works out to be using 2600maH cells, 3.6V per cell.
9cell - 10.8V, 7.8AH, 85Whr. Same as above.

If you insist on buying 3rd party, there is a shop on lvl2 SLS who specializes in batteries. They cost more than DX (but still a lot cheaper vs originals) but at least you can test on the spot to make sure it works.

Calibration as in the "Battery Gauge Reset" option? I set the power manager to notify me when a reset is recommended and it hasn't reminded me for quite a while. Should I do a initiate one even though the power manager hasn't prompted me to do so?

Just get the original battery.

I read that some 3rd party batteries die very fast. Perhaps I'm risk adverse so I bought a original 8 cell for my X61. COst me about $220. No regrets as I'm pretty sure my 2 year old X61 can easily last me another 2 years.

Battery may be expensive but when you compare the cost of a Thinkpad X, T and W series, the cost is only a small percentage.

For those $700 notebooks, I don't bother buying a replacement battery.

My X series cost about $2.8k and I would want to extend it life span on the road.
