I am planning to get a thinkpad.
is it better to get from stores in simlim or should I get it from the online store lenovo?

ThinkPad Edge 14" > is it a good choice as I am planning to get a laptop to use at least 5 years or long term. Like to ask if the weight for edge is it good for carrying around?

i am very interested in buying OLD IBM Thinkpads. Preferably working ones but if not working can state me the reason why it is faulty . I am interested in all processors ranging from Pentium 1 ~~ until any old processor you can think of but my budget is not that high so i can only buy in old Thinkpads from the past meaning around (1992 the first IBM Thinkpad until maybe around 2001?). If you have any old Thinkpads that was left in 1 corner of your house, why not sell it to me for some money?

Never never buy from shops in Sim Lim. Buy in Funan is safer.

I've been a Thinkpad fan since school, the last Thinkpad purchase was a X60 in late 2006...it's been showing some signs of dying soon

Got to get a new one, is the X201 a direct replacement of the X60? Because I can't seem to find the X61 these days...

Probably want to continue with X Series due to light weight....is a S$2,500 budget sufficient these days for X201? (the X60 cost me S$3K back then though) - will the iCore 5 or 7 make a major difference? Sorry I am a noob

It is a good replacement model to consider for X60.

Yes, $2.5k budget should be there about (I think the price for the i5 model is $2299).

i5 and i7 difference not so noticable in normal usage in my humble point of view. So it is up to your individual needs to decide if the i7 CPU is needed.

Yes, you should be able to upgrade to 8GB. But before you take full advantage of the 8GB RAM, you need to upgrade the pre installed OS to 64bits (can be done at Lenovo Service Centre if i am not wrong).

12 cell battery? Never see before. But the 9 cell battery is already quite good. A friend of mine had it and the battery could last about 8-9hours. But the machine is quite heavy after configuring in that manner.

The reason for me to enquire was because some keys' letters were scratched off. In the end, I went on eBay and bought S$5.00 black key stickers.

I believe that you can buy individual keys from ebay. However, u have to certain as to what the back clip of the key is, as I think there are 3 kinds.

How do you update it with the right warranty date?

No issues on that I believe (I might be wrong). Mine was 6 months difference and when I claim warranty, I just produced my proof of purchase and get the service center to update it at the same time.

Im intending to get a 14 inch laptop this coming it show. Considering the thinkpad series in addition to asus. From the lenovo website, seems like only the T and EDGE series have 14 inch models.

Would like to seek some comments about user sentiment regarding the thinkpad series currently. Last time it was quite renown for its quality and durability, is this still the ground sentiment from majority users nowadays (I know every brand and series will have heng/suays)?

As a last note, is the ideapad anywhere as reliable as the thinkpad and should I consider it as well? Thanks.
