Get 4 DVD RW disk ready. Use window 7 to backup C and Q drive, using the including system image option, to the DVD or network drive. Use lenovo included DVD writing software (normally corel), load the 4 DVD and save ISO image of these DVD. That's your virgin backup.

Then run lenovo create recovery disks program and when 4 DVD are completed, again use DVD software to save ISO of these discs. This is your lenovo recovery discs and image backup. I normally save the images of these DVDs on my network drive and in another location. Because DVD disc can be damage due to heat, rough handling or overwrite due to carelessness.

It was reported in several incidents when running the lenovo creation of recovery media, either the DVD media is spoil or there is bug in the lenovo software and the process is Incomplete. When that happen, there is NO option to retry (especially if it is lenovo recovering fault). you cannot try to Create another time as the stupid lenovo software will say already created and you only have 1 set.

Those people who missed the virgin backup step may have to go lenovo to get help.

In the past, after the backup, I will reboot the laptop and do a full recovery because that process will reset the 'recovery media' bit and ANOTHER set can be burn. In that run, I will finish disk 1, and when it ask for 'application' disc, I will just interrrupt the process and reboot. In that way, only window 7/vista/xp is installed (semi-clean) and all the lenovo junkware/trial antivirus/trial biz software etc is not installed. The download Update 4.0 and install the latest lenovo stuff you want.

However, in RECENT lenovo laptop, they became smart and the recovered laptop can no longer burn any more recovery media set. Oh well, that is why I created the Virgin set in the first step

Burning recovery discs more than once

Have benefited much from this thread. Thought I share what I found online.

It's possible to reset the one time burning of recovery discs. To do this you simply reset the very\service_done.ini from DONE=1 to DONE=0. (u need to enable viewing of system files under folder option and use notepad to open the above .ini file and edit it)

I did it before on my w520. So hopefully it will work for those who accidentally spoilt or misplaced their recovery discs.

It works if you know that the recovery discs are spoiled. However, in recent cases there is no error shown till one fine day someone tried to reset to factory. Pop in the disc, it formats the HDD then get stuck at disc 2 or 3. Then oops!

Hence making a virgin clone if the system and Q drive may be advantages as step 1.

Yes, media life is hard to predict. It is best to keep 2 or more copies at different time. Another method is use some utility to create the iso image out of the backup and store them in another USB drive. When needed, you can burn it to DVD again.

Wow, top of the line Intel SSD. That's odd. Normally it would be an onsite warranty. But then again I guess it only applies to academic purchases.

@ Capone - Yes, the T420s is out and available.

I can't order from there. I'm not a poly student.

Where do I buy a X220T? No need educational price, cash and carry is best.

Have searched whole forums also/googled. It really seems like there is no demand for this. Has everyone lost interest in an actual tablet PC for work? :(

Haven't seen the X220T in the flesh yet. The shops are still showing the X201T though.

:3 feeling pretty impatient as I need the laptop very soon as term is starting, have to get used to it too. Surprised that such an awesome computer (on paper) would be hard to get.

I believe it is a niche market hence not many shops carry that and it will be charged at a premium over the X220. Drop by Addon Sytems in Funan and ask, they may give you an eta on the X220T.

Cheers!
