Hi Shawn,

I am currently running the setup that you mention, mSATA SSD + 320GB HDD. I am also using the MyDigitalSSD 128GB mSATA SSD. I opine the that you should get the 128GB because you can never go wrong with a big igger mSATA SSD.

As for tutorials, you can search my posts on the matter. I have posted them before.

Cheers.

Hey thanks for the reply! Yes I've read your previous posts. Because I'm on a tight budget and not that much in need of such a big ssd. Just want to put my os and office in it.
Just a question. Did you remove your hdd while installing your msata in the bios?

Yup, I did. I didn't want any screw-ups, especially with the installation from the Recovery Discs. So it is better to remove the HDD 1st, leaving the mSATA SSD inside.

After the mSATA SSD is properly configured, then i put in the HDD and wipe the data off it. Do note that the Recovery discs will create a hidden partition on your SSD for recovery purposes, about 7-9GB or so. There are people who recovered the space by either moving the hidden recovery partition to the HDD or just deleting it. I chose to leave it as it is, because it is too much trouble and I have enough space.

Also, you don't have to worry about the data being aligned on the SSD. The factory recovery discs will do the necessary.

this is spec good enough for normal usage? see email/excel sheet/myob etc?

most wu hau is its include the docking stations and 4 yr depot warranty (if im not wrong its IWS right?)

total price is 1900ish USD, so we are looking at 2300. can any bros advise the shipping charge? and how they charge you Gst?

recommend to use CGW as they will not charge you sales tax in US.
shipping to SG will prob cost approx SG$50.

But strangely when I use borderlinx, they didnt charge me GST when reach SG.

Hi guys, I finally made my purchase..

Was told by my US Rep... Accidental protection is not covered for IWS... you have to get this in Singapore..... Double confirmed this with Lenovo SG Sales as well....

Anyone knows how much the Accidental protection coverage will be?

Also, if how much does the Upgrading of 1 year depot to 3 years onsite warranty in Singapore cost?

System I just ordered : W520...

Will be shipped to CGW in Oregon.. then to Singapore! Yippee!! Can't wait!

lol, i ordered a w520 as well, probably on the same day as you, shipping to cgw also.

Re the warranty, if i recall correctly (i don't, most of the time, so be warned) it has to be procured via lenovo US since the set is officially a US purchased one. Cost should be similar to what is shown during the checkout.

Am using amazon checkout and since it only accepts 1 item, I couldnt add extra wty then. Going to try extending it after I get the set.

what is the battery life of models like T420, W520 and X220 right now? The usage is just for normal web surfing and word processing.

ok.. Strange... I could add on my 3 years years onsite warranty to the order and its considered as single item purchase.

So I paid via Amazon Checkout in 1 payment!

However note that Accidental Protection is not covered internationally as confirmed by US & SG Sales Reps... If I want it, I have to buy it in Singapore to have it cover me in Singapore it seems.

From personal experience, I could get about 5hrs from my X220 + 6 cell battery. Brightness at 5, wifi & BT on. On a 9 cell, you can look at 8hrs.

wow good for you, wanted to do the same. the amazon checkout icon didnt show up for me when there was more than 1 line item. so i removed the wty to checkout. apart from that, am happy enough that the order went through OK.

Thanks for the advice, in case I can't get wty extended online, i will go to the SG reps. The normal wty + 2 extra years should be good enough for me.

Well note that I only state Accidental protection.... The Accidental Protection only covers local... so meaning if you buy together with your Onsite or Depot warranty, it covers in US only.

Not sure about the Onsite / Depot standard warranty .. I believe I heard somewhere also, need to get from US since its a US set.

Also please note, if you require 3 years warranty (onsite), please just get the 3 years option, do not go to the 2 years option... please double confirm with the US Day reps.

I only know my case was because upgrade to Onsite.. so it overwrites the free 1 year depot warranty.. not very sure for those who are opting for extension of DEPOT warranty... please check!!!

Repost of mine. super duper pissed.

office laptop Fujitsu used for donkey yrs...nothg hap at all...they switched to Lenovo, crashed 2 times in less than 3 mths....data unrecoverable, and they will only change new hard disk at best....some fellows will say user issue....blah blah blah.....but the laptop is so freaking new that there is hardly any chance of it getting physical damage, or virus infection
