Repost of mine. super duper pissed.

office laptop Fujitsu used for donkey yrs...nothg hap at all...they switched to Lenovo, crashed 2 times in less than 3 mths....data unrecoverable, and they will only change new hard disk at best....some fellows will say user issue....blah blah blah.....but the laptop is so freaking new that there is hardly any chance of it getting physical damage, or virus infection

I believe it can be down to bad luck getting lemons as well as usage from your colleagues. If a person take a brand new laptop, regardless of brand, and download/open attachments indiscriminately, a virus/trojan/etc can be installed and cause the laptop to hang.

Case in point, I purchased a X220 for Colleague A and he used it for 2 months. The X220 crashed numerous times, causing data loss, etc. He complained that it was the worst laptop he has ever encountered. I took it back, restored to factory settings and passed it to Colleague B and surprise surprise, the X220 ran flawlessly for 4mths and counting.

My office's PCs & laptops are all Lenovo and of course, we had some small hardware issues but nothing the 3-yr on-site warranty can't fix! :)

at least yours got HDD replaced, last time our office brought HP onsite warranty, and we got this HDD spoil issue, the Ah Neh CS die die dont want to sent any guy down, threaten to charge me when they find its a software fault, talk for a few days and nothing get through! in the end we cut off anything related from HP, all my Lappy user use Thinkpad. sometime we have to depend on luck one la, someone out of 1000 set maybe got 1 deflect... and also laptop contain so many component, so maybe got one part spoil, they admit it and get it replaced. if you want assurance for your personal data its better to get a external harddisk to store your stuff rather than in your own computer, like that at least you have a back up

Just curious but was it diagnosed as a HDD problem eventually?

You could go to "That Repair Shop" at Sim Lim #04-45.
I just bought OEM battery for T61 with 70S$.
Anyway call them to check battery for your model at 68831480 first.
Do bargain.

another successful thinkpad purchase via comgateway...

- ordered on 29 mar
- shipped from china on 1 apr.
- reached comgateway warehouse 6 apr, and shipped out the same day
- reach sg 9 apr, delivered 11 apr

As mentioned in an earlier post, I wasn't able to tack on the extended warranty on checkout. Went back to lenovo's website with my serial number and paid for the 3 year warranty. Used amazon payments like how I paid for the initial order. Card has been charged but order not yet officially completed - but doubt I will meet with problems on this one, considering there wasn't any issue with buying the laptop itself.

I have the accidental damage protection warranty, but i'm not sure if that has international coverage. Here's hoping i'll never have to lodge a claim..

i just received my w520 today (biggest %^#^%#$%# power brick i have ever seen)

some info for those thinking of ordering from lenovo US

- i used amazon payments to pay using my SGP credit card. like most people here, it only allowed me to do a single-item checkout. for me, that means no warranty extension or upgrade. will have to go back in with serial number to purchase.

- used comgateway. for re-sending back to singapore.
looking back at my records, lenovo's order confirmation email listed my cgw US address as my billing address.
however my amazon payments email listed my SGP address as billing address. made me a big confused and worried that payment wouldnt go through.

maybe there was some lag on lenovo's part.

- comgateway uses dhl. dhl delivers on weekends! told me on the phone that if i hadnt made arrangements, they would have waited till monday.

- my power brick came with a 2 pin american cord.

all you have to do is find one of these to replace it with
http://www.cable-trader.co.uk/images/items/Figure%20of%208%20to%202%20pin%20euro%20mains%20power%20cable%20BLACK%201.8m.jpg

hope that was useful to anybody going to buy from US.
and thanks to all those who gave helpful info.

Yeah, the W520 comes with a 120W AC Adaptor which is really huge and heavy.
