It is very difficult to give my beloved X61 a second life as it is a 5-year old machine...sigh..

If you are unable to repair your lappy, can give me your HDD rubber? The 2 pieces that wrap round your HDD.

My T420 came with 7mm HDD but I ordered a Crucial M4 9.5mm SSD. Canno fit.

That should be the standard type of HDD which comes with the X220.

Yup, all X220 and X230 HDDs are 7mm in height. You have to find a 7mm SSD/HDD to get it to fit.

I have a lenovo 9.5mm plate for mounting a 7mm ssd/hdd on it, let me know if you want it

No rubber though, it's just a metal plate.

I purchased a refurbished X220 from ebay last year. Recently, I found some bright white spots on the IPS screen. As it is under warranty, I thought I could bring it to the Lenovo Service Centre and probably have my screen repaired or replaced. However, they asked for the original Lenovo receipt which did not come with my laptop previously. Hence, they are unable to do the replacement for free.

I asked for a quotation for the replacement for the screen. The service staff quoted me $400+ and a labour charge of about $75. Seriously, I do not think this is worth it. Does anyone know a cheaper means of getting the screen replaced?

Did you check with them that this is a second hand unit and the owner did not give you the receipt when you purchase it, is there anyway to get it fixed under warranty (provided your set still has warranty - can check it online with your serial number)?

Yes, my set still has warranty as indicated in the system. However, without a receipt with serial no stated, Lenovo will not be able to fix it under warranty. What I heard from the service staff (if I didn't hear wrongly) was that Lenovo in China would need to see the receipt to ensure that the laptop was from legitimate source (e.g. not stolen goods etc.). Apparently, they mentioned that they implemented this policy since last year. I tried to show my proof of purchase from ebay, but was not accepted.

That's strange. When I wanted to do a warranty fix, they didn't mentioned anything about showing the receipt. They just checked my machine's serial number to ensure that it is still under warranty and proceeded with the repair.

Did you buy the laptop in Singapore? Mine was from US Ebay.

I didn't call the service centre. I physically went down to the service centre at Changi Business Park. Basically they are not willing to honour the warranty just based on the system information. They don't even want to recognise my ebay receipt.

They did not ask to check my receipt either when I sent in my Thinkpad for repairs early this year.

They just checked to ensure that the set is still within warranty and took in my set to get the problem rectified.

Try to call up the support number given by Azrielsc and check with them if you can claim the warranty. Get a Case ID from them before going down to the service centre.
