There's this catch here...I do not dare to mess around with the networking or wireless stuff cos i'm scared once i update the drivers I would need to send back the laptop to the sch for configuration.wld that be necessary?

if you are using the IBM access connection manager, just backup your profile.

it is just a driver update and not setup needed, just expand the file then go to driver update in device manager

this version just add in WPA and WPA-PSK in the network authentication. instead of the usual Open or shared method

If you encountered any of the following situations below:

"..Intermittently (haven't found a clear cause yet), the keyboard response slows to a crawl. For several seconds, the letters typed appear at about 0.5 to 1 second intervals. After several seconds, the response time returns to normal. The keyboard delay can happen anywhere (IE, Word, any application's text field) without warning. I've noticed it several times a day, but it's (as of yet) unpredictable. There doesn't appear to be heavy disk access during the delay; just a sluggish keyboard.."

"..Same problem here with my 237322G. It even happens at the logon-screen when typing in my password.."

"..i got the exact same laptop (23722G), and it rarely ever happens during normal usage but almost always happens after restoring from hibernation.."

The fix for this is located here:

TP R40, T40(2372), X31(2672) - Slow response when typing

For people with the Intel MiniPCI 2100 Wireless card:

If you find that you can only use Channel 3-13, and your AP is using Channel 1-2, heres a tip (not sure if it works) to enable your wireless card to use those 2 channels:

1. Go to the "Advanced" tab on the properties screen.

2. Change "Extended Channel Mode" to Enabled.

If you accidentally removed the access connection wireless status icon in the system tray (the small icon with 3 antenna bars) and want to get the status icon back to the system tray:

Go Start> All programs> Access IBM> IBM Access connections> click to open> then options> Global settings> show wireless status icon in task tray

Hi, another new user here. Just got my X31 last friday. Guess i'm one of the few x31 user around.

If you encounter sluggish system, it may be due to the fact that you have set your computer to join the NUSSTU domain. I think for a laptop, try not to join the domain. When you are in school, just use VPN. It seems that when you're in the domain, the computer will search for the network resources, and computer tend to be sluggish when it's searching for it. Even when you are not connected, it tends to do the search too.

To check whether you are in a domain or not, right click my computer, properties, computer name, change. Those in home network can set it to the same workgroup as your other home computer, so when you're back home can share stuff easily.

P.S. I'm really interested to know how many of you carry your T or R to school everyday?

i am not sure how your school domain is setup but in my environment, when i boot up the notebook and it doesnt get an ip address while loading up windows, it will assume that you are not connected to any network and continue loading up windows. although iit takes just a bit longer to get to the login screen, once you are at the login screen, you can put in your credentials n p/w n continue as per norm. during this login screen, you can also choose to login via the domain or local admin of your comp.

if the tip from hellseeker doesnt work, you can try updating the keyboard customizer.

works for r40,t40 n x31

heres the link to it again:

keep us posted on your findings!

hmm..this is interesting, but are those the symptoms that you encountered as described earlier?

also another thing to note, what is an acceptable lag and is it currently not running anything at the moment?

another tip as yet again! (hope u guys dont get sick of it as its coming so quick for yet another tip)

if you need to reinstall your Access IBM, it can be found at:

You mean Norton antivirus? Nope. But they do come with some OfficeScan thing, which is licensed by NUS and can be updated regularly through the school server.

But anyway, i uninstalled it. =p

How to add RAM

Hi,

I am not yet an official R40 owner, just placed my order today but will receive it next week!:) Need some help here...

I bought the laptop from NUS, the cheaper centrino model - 1.3Ghz and 256MB ram. I want to top up 256MB more, but the salesperson advise me to get it from other vendors/shop because the IBM one will come only in end sept.

Is it easy to add the RAM? (i'm familiar with disassembling desktop but not laptop) Any shops in funan or simlim that you can recommend for ram?

Also, will we break the warranty if we add ram ourselves?
