'Mythic Quest' World Expands With New Series 'Mere Mortals'

Mythic Quest is a workplace comedy created by Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia co-creators Rob McElhenney and Charlie Day alongside Always Sunny writer Megan Ganz. The series is set inside a fictional video game studio as chaos ensues as the employees prepare for the next big update for its popular game. The series follows everyone in the company from the owner and creator, to the programmers, to play-testers. Now, Mere Mortals is primed to expand that focus. The new series will be an eight-episode “extension series” that will “explore the lives of employees, players, and fans who are impacted by the game.”

Not much more is known about the new series at this time. But, it is said to be in a similar vein to the “departure” episodes of the flagship series. Each season of the flagship series has a “departure” episode or two that breaks from the show's regular format to focus on a single character. Season 1 has the acclaimed "A Dark Quiet Death", which didn’t feature any of the main cast and instead brought in guest stars Jake Johnson and Cristin Milioti to show the life cycle of a different game and video game studio. Season 2 had a pair of episodes "Backstory!" and "Peter" which turned the focus to F. Murray Abraham’s character as his backstory is explored.

Mere Mortals is created by Ashly Burch, John Howell Harris, and Katie McElhenney. All three are writers for Mythic Quest and are well acquainted with the world. Burch also stars in the series and wrote the fan-favorite quarantine episode. McElhenney also wrote the previously mentioned acclaimed "A Dark Quiet Death". The new series will also see original Mythic Quest creators Ganz, Rob McElhenney, and Day serve as executive producers alongside David Hornsby, Nick Frenkel, Michael Rotenberg, Jason Altman, and Margaret Boykin.

AppleTV+ going all in on Mythic Quest is no surprise. It was one of the first series to premiere on the streamer and was almost instantly a big hit with fans and critics. The series was also renewed for a third and fourth season not long after the second season finished airing. Now it is just time to wait and see if Mere Mortals can capture the same magic.

Stay tuned to Collider for any future updates on Mere Mortals and watch Mythic Quest as it currently airs its third season on AppleTV+. Also, check out the trailer for Mythic Quest Season 3 below:

New Star Trek TV Series Starfleet Academy Announced For Paramount Plus

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy has officially been announced to stream on Paramount+! The next Star Trek series in Paramount+'s universe is about "a new class of Starfleet cadets as they come of age in one of the most legendary places in the galaxy."

Star Trek on Paramount+'s official Twitter made the announcement for Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, which will be executive produced by Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau, who serve as co-showunners. The series premiere is written by Gaia Violo. Check out the Tweet below:

Where And When In Star Trek Does Starfleet Academy Take Place?

The fact that Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau's Star Trek: Starfleet Academy announcement begins with "For the first time in over a century..." indicates that the new series is set during Star Trek: Discovery's 32nd century. In Star Trek: Discovery season 4, Starfleet Academy reopened after a hundred years of the United Federation of Planets being broken apart by The Burn. Lt. Sylvia Tilly (Mary Wiseman) left the USS Discovery to instruct at the new Starfleet Academy, and she led a group of Cadets to survive being marooned on an ice moon with the help of Adira Tal (Blu del Barrio).

Otherwise, the press release for Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is light on specific details about the series. The copy highlights the Starfleet Academy's premise is about "a young group of cadets who come together to pursue a common dream of hope and optimism. Under the watchful and demanding eyes of their instructors, they will discover what it takes to become Starfleet officers as they navigate blossoming friendships, explosive rivalries, first loves, and a new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself." No cast or character names were announced, nor is there a premiere date set for Starfleet Academy.

If Star Trek: Starfleet Academy indeed takes place in the 32nd century, then the new show is potentially poised to be the replacement for Star Trek: Discovery, which concludes with its fifth and final season in early 2024. Starfleet Academy begins production in 2024. Although many Star Trek fans might prefer Starfleet Academy be set in Star Trek: Picard's early 25th-century time frame, Discovery planted the seeds for Starfleet Academy in season 4. Star Trek: Starfleet Academy also means Discovery's 32nd century will continue to be explored to further establish the farthest point in Star Trek's timeline, and it could also mean guest stars from the USS Discovery will appear in the new show as well

“56 Days” – James Wan Producing Thriller Series for Amazon Studios

Based on the bestselling novel by Catherine Ryan Howard, Amazon Studios is turning “56 Days” into a television series, with James Wan’s Atomic Monster on board to produce.

THR reports, “Lisa Zwerling (ER, When We Rise) and Karyn Usher (Bones, Prison Break) are adapting the book,” with Wan producing alongside Amazon Studios.

56 Days is a psychological thriller that tells the story of an intense, erotic romance that turns deadly.

“It follows two young professionals, striking out on their own in a new city, who are entangled quickly in a charged relationship that leads to a powerful intimacy that is soon cracked open by their secrets … and to murder.”
Zwerling and Usher will executive produce 56 Days along with Wan, Michael Clear and Rob Hackett of Atomic Monster. Howard is a co-exec producer, and Atomic Monster’s Danielle Bozzone will oversee development.

Daredevil's New & Returning Cast Unite In Born Again Fan Poster

How Daredevil: Born Again Will Differ From The Netflix Show

Marvel Studios is keeping mum on Daredevil's continuity when it comes to Daredevil: Born Again. However, a few details are already known about how the two shows will differ. A key element is the almost double-sized amount of episodes Daredevil: Born Again will have. On Netflix, every season consisted of only 13 episodes. With Daredevil: Born Again having 18, it's the longest Disney+ show of all the Marvel Studios series.

Daredevil: Born Again is also going to be without two of Cox's co-stars from the Netflix drama. Neither Deborah Ann Woll nor Elden Henson is reprising the roles of Karen Page and Foggy Nelson. It's unclear if the characters are being cut altogether or simply eying new actors to play them. According to D'Onofrio, Daredevil: Born Again will dig deeper into the characters compared to the Netflix show.

In terms of Daredevil: Born Again's tone, it will likely be a milder version of the Netflix drama. It wouldn't be shocking if Daredevil: Born Again is at least darker than Moon Knight. Time will tell how the show will be executed as Daredevil: Born Again gets further into filming.

“The X-Files: Albuquerque” – Animated Spinoff Series Gets the Axe

Just one week after the massive news that Ryan Coogler (Creed, Black Panther) is apparently developing a whole new take on “The X-Files,” TV Line reports that another “The X-Files” project will not be seeing the light of day. “The X-Files: Albuquerque” is reportedly no more.

Announced back in 2020, “The X-Files: Albuquerque” was set to be an animated spinoff series centered on new characters, but TV Line reports that the series has been given the axe.

The X-Files: Albuquerque — an animated comedy spinoff of the live-action classic — is not moving forward at Fox,” TV Line confirms in their report this week.

“The X-Files” creator Chris Carter had been attached to produce the spinoff series.

TV Line had explained in 2020, “The potential series will center an office full of misfit agents who investigate X-Files cases too wacky, ridiculous or downright dopey for Mulder and Scully to bother with. They’re essentially the X-Files’ B-team.”

The project had been given a script commitment, with Rocky Russo and Jeremy Sosenko (“Paradise PD”) attached to write the pilot episode and executive produce.

‘Foundation’ Season 3 Officially Begins Filming at Apple TV+ [Exclusive]

The second season may not have a premiere date yet, but the third season of ‘Foundation’ has now officially begun filming this Monday (April 3) in the Czech Republic. Season 3 production is likely to move to Ireland once the shoot in the Czech Republic is over.

‘Foundation’ Season 3 is currently slated to shoot for more than three months and will officially wrap up on July 12, 2023. In November 2022, we revealed that Foundation has been given an advance Season 3 renewal, but to this date, Apple is yet to officially announce it.

Apple TV+ has confirmed that the second season will premiere sometime in Summer this year. So we can expect Foundation Season 2 to release in July or August 2023. The streamer has already revealed a sneak peek for the second season that gives us the first look at the upcoming crisis. It focuses on Gaal Dornick as she takes the next step of the mission of the Foundation as a new crisis seems to appear. The first season was set in two different time zones, and at the end of the first season, Gaal was 138 years into the future, as meets her daughter Salvor Hardin.

The second season is likely to focus more on the story of Gaal and Salvor while delving into the second crisis. Although the time jump has already been confirmed, Season 2 can still be divided into two periods. On the Empire front, Season 2 may explain how the change in the DNA of the clones may have affected Brother Day and his predecessors and since the DNA of Cleon I was altered long back, how the future of the Empire and its successors are going be affected.

Season One of Foundation is led by Jared Harris as Dr. Hari Seldon, Lou Llobell as Gaal Dornick, Lee Pace as Brother Day, Cassian Bilton as Brother Dawn, Leah Harvey as Salvor Hardin, Laura Birn as Demerzel, Terrence Mann as Brother Dusk, and Alfred Enoch as Raych. The new faces in the Season 2 cast include Isabella Laughland as Brother Constant, Kulvinder Ghir as Poly Verisof, Holt McCallany as Warden Jaegger Fount, Mikael Persbrandt as The Warlord of Kalgan, Sandra Yi Sencindiver as Enjoiner Rue, Ella-Rae Smith as Queen Sareth of Cloud Dominion, Dimitri Leonidas as Hober Mallow, Ben Daniels as Bel Roise, Rachel House as Tellem Bond, and Nimrat Kaur as Yanna Seldon.

Foundation is led by showrunner and executive producer David S. Goyer and produced for Apple by Skydance Television with Robyn Asimov, Cameron Welsh, David Ellison, Josh Friedman, Dana Goldberg, and Bill Bost also serving as executive producers.

Loosely Based on the award-winning novels by Isaac Asimov, Foundation chronicles a band of exiles on their tremendous journey to save humanity and rebuild civilization amid the fall of the Galactic Empire.

Streaming on Apple TV+ Summer 2023
