It depends. A14 will likely be better at single core while A12Z will likely still be better at other areas, eg multi core and graphic. Also it’s likely that the air won’t come with same ram as pro.

that being said, air is now very attractive due to the price point and performance similar to the pro.

pro still have more storage 1TB vs 256GB for air and battery life.

air is good for those that don't need 512GB or 1TB storage.

i cannot. got my 256GB pro 12.9" in may from m1, 2 weeks later bought another 512GB pro 11" from m1.
finally bought a 3rd pro 11" with 1TB from Apple shop in Orchard rd.

bloody video conferencing recording for bosses needs lots of storage before i go back to office once a week n transfer to office pc system.

Yup they are discontinuing the 11” Pro.

For multi core CPU, A14 is still slower than A12X.

Go to 5'48 onwards. You will see the benchmark for A14 against the A12X and A12Z. On Geekbench 5 GPU, 2020 ipad pro A12Z scores 10352, the 2020 ipad Air is only 6000. Even the 2018 ipad pro scores 9000.

After adding on the storage options and accessories, the price difference between the ipad Air 4 and ipad Pro 2018 or iPad Pro 2020 becomes pretty close, but the performance gap is still pretty big.

I will still go for ipad pro 2020. Placing my order today.

Just have to place your finger on the lock button to unlock when promoted. Don’t have to physical press down the button unless you are unlocking from a black screen.

Using education pricing, after selling free airpods (assume $160), iPad Pro is 1129-160=969. iPad Air will be $809. $160 difference, you decide which is more worth it.

Alternatively you can consider refurb iPad Pro 2018 64GB at $819 when it is available

I think it really depends. Not sure whether there is new iPad Pro 11” but maybe since the pro has 4 speakers and comes with 120hz refresh rate.

To me, the air is quite a decent tablet provided you don’t need the quad speakers and high refresh rate

Thanks for the breakdown bro, been trying to hunt for a refurbished 2018 iPad Pro 11” since the released of the 2020 but still couldn’t snap one up. That will be the best value for me as I only care for the quad speakers and 120hz screen.

Originally wanted to wait for the next release of the iPad Pro (prob 2021 or 2022) but abit scared that they are only gonna release 12.9”

I also scared that there will be only 12.9" for the new iPad Pro.

There's this website called refurb tracker that can send you email alerts when it comes back into stock. Previously set some alerts before and they were in stock for at least a few hours
