you are right it is still charging but like snail.

i'm trying to charge using my macbook air now. charging from 16% of batt. let see if its able to charge to full. if its possible, then i think chances are its adapter incompatibility. :/

if that case there is absolutely no problem with the mini just that the 5W charger can't take the heat and termal shut down itself therefore charging stops,Apple might have underestimated the charging duration of the mini and termal properties of the 5W charger.

maybe i shld bring the adapter down to service centre and try doing a exchange. C if it solve the problem although i tried with my iphone 5's adapter before, and the result is the same. :/

My black 16gb wifi has no charging issue.always able to charge to 100%, even with my yoobao 11200mah external charger.

A point to note,i dont use the come along ipad mini charger, rather my ipad 2 original charger. Could it be the cause that i dont have charging issue, i dont know.

based on the posts in this thread..seems to be due to the charger of mini...

if you can charge the mini to 100% without problem with ipad charger then i guess there is nothing wrong with the mini it self,i dun have mini now else i will join in the testing and give feed back.

oh one more thing can also test, charge the mini with the included 5W charger from say 80-90% onwards and see if it does goes all the way to 100% full by doing that we can also confirm that the 5W charger has not over heat and shut down by itself.

Missed on this post. I tried this before, my ipad mini can charge to 100% if its from 80+%. No problem with this.

if that is the case we can all put the final nail to the coffin,5W charger can't sustain long charging hours and will overheat eventually thermal shutdown thus leaving the iPad Mini 80-90% charged.

yeah, i think thats the most probable reason. but not everyone seems to have this issue. i think maybe it affects by batch. or there is also a possibility that its due to the differences in the electric wiring in some homes.

i think its stupid to supply a 5W charger when it is a scaled down version of the ipad2.

some are not even using the 5W charger i think,as you can see some replies saying they do not have charging problem and they are also using the iPad 2/3/4 charger or is it that they start charging their iPad Mini from say 50-70% on wards therefore not long enough to cause a thermal shutdown just yet.

true. i think it really shouldn't be paired with a 5W charger. sigh.

apparently, more n more cases surfacing. hopefully will be a recognised issue by apple soon.

you can use a 10W or the newer 12W to charge it. It will most likely be able to charge to 100% without stopping. Alternatively, if u have a macbook u may wan to charge it using the USB port. for non-mac computers, the charging thru usb will be very slow unless u have something like the ASUS ai-charger USB port (dunno if its named correctly).

u can try to turn off the power adapter and reboot ur ipad, then let it charge again.

Just add-on. Most (non-Macbooks) laptops nowadays comes with a particular (at least one) USB port that has "charging" annotation to it. Meaning, it is designed to support higher current (or is it watt) for charging of mobile devices. Some even has the advance capability to still charge mobile devices even when the laptop is in shutdown state. What it does is discharge its internal batteries to charge the mobile device through that particular USB port.

Confirm chop head iPad mini issue Liao. I have 3 x iPhone 5 charger and 6 x iPad mini charger. I test every one of them with different cable and even with my newly bought 30pin -9pin adapter. I let my iPad mini drop the battery percentage to about 86% and start charging. All 100% stop at 90%. I have escalate the issue to Apple help desk and the senior tech also tell me some report such issue. He told me to try different charger and cable yesterday. That's what I did today and I have drop him a mail on this since today Apple Helpdesk not open.
Tua Kee Liao... Time to exchange iPad mini..
I have change my iPhone 5 3 times liao and now my iPad mini also start the trend. Hope my iPad 4 is ok...

I have same issue with iPad Mini charging to 91% then stop. I need to unplug and then plug in to charge again to get it up to 100%. Can't seem to solve it. Do let us know if u successfully exchange and if replacement set has same issue ?
