Anyone using 3rd party USB-C to HDMI adapters? Mine not working unless add in power source :(
I always thought USB-C has enough power to ‘power’ the adapter. Not sure if it’s just my unit.

Hi iPad Gurus, I have nv own an iPad and seeking advice if I shld get an iPad Pro (2021) 11” over a M/S SP8

I am looking for a personal laptop having gone without one for the past 8 years. My key usage are:
  1. Content consumption: Web browsing, news, media, e-book
  2. Productivity: MS suite (.doc, .xls, .ppt), On-screen content snipping
  3. Communication: Emailing, VC, web messaging (Whatsapp/Wechat)
  4. Organisation: File management
Hardware requirement: Portability, monitor extension.

While I prefer the versatility of a tablet to facilitate content consumption and working on the go and around home, I also wanted a tablet that is powerful enough in the form of a laptop replacement. I identified the upcoming M/S SP8 and IPP 2021 11” as my only 2 choices. While the SP8 will potentially fit the bill, it is yet to be launched and is likely to be more exp than IPP Pro. I am waiting for WWDC in June to discover wat improvement will come to the M1 IPP esp on the iPadOS for screen extension and producvity. I would like to ask for your opinion as follow:
  • Is iPadOS user friendly for MS suite, I need a fully functional MS suite.
  • Ease of file management like M/S File Explorer
  • Do U think Cellular is unnecessary when we have wifi at home and can hot-spot to our mobile outside home?
  • Is Apple Pencil unnecessary for normal user like me and more like something fancy for user who draw or make notes on their tablet?
  • Is AppleCare+ necessary?
Choiced IPP 2021: 11”, Space Gray, 512GB, Wi-Fi ($1,649)
Accessories: Logitech Combo Touch Keyboard Case ($289), Power Support Matte Film

Hv a good weekend n TIA!

I recently transited from my office Windows-based laptop to the iPad. There is a learning curve obviously .. but that should not be an issue. Needless to say, a good keyboard case is crucial.

To answer your questions (based purely on personal comments):
1. I think IOS is not perfect as a “office-working” platform sort of thing .. but so far I have not been faced with too many issues. It’s all about getting used to. (Alternative would be to the MacOS on a Macbook). But apps such as Microsoft Office works absolutely fine.

2. Using the default “FILE” application, and it works perfectly Integrated with OneDrive (for my office docs) and Google Drive (for personal). I keep nothing on my iPad.

3. I have no issues with built-in cellular, as the iPad automatically (& seamless) detects and pairs with my iPhone. And my mobile SIM is more than sufficient data. I hardly have to go find an available wifi hotspot.

4. I use the pencil only to sign my office docs. That’s all.

5. I protect my iPad with a proper case, thus i see no need for AppleCare+

I ask myself why move onto the iPad from a full-fledged Win laptop … well, its the ease of use, reliability, portability and long battery life of the iPad that got to me.

Thanks galliano.

I am in quite the situation as you when it comes to transiting from Window to iPad.
1. What was it that is most challenging for u in ur learning curve?
2. What keyboard case are you using w ur iPad now?
3. Is ur IPP Wi-Fi only or with Cellular? When u said ur iPad auto detects and pairs with ur iPhone, is tat hot-spotting?
4. R u using any external monitor? The IPP 11" been small, screen extension to a larger screen monitor is another impt requirement for me as I need the real estate for heavy productivity work.

My motivation to go with IPP is somehow the same as U and I like it to be snappy i.e. tat quick on/off as and when I want it up and running or shut off.

Just bought the Logitech Slim Folio Pro 11’ (for 1 & 2nd Gen as stated on box), and it fits fine for the new iPad Pro 11’.

I’m using the same, fits perfectly. I find the Slim Folio Pro to be the perfect keyboard case for me. I don’t require a trackpad, has a magnetic latch to also secure the Pencil in place and it’s cheaper than the Combo Touch.

Only thing that it has a BT keyboard that requires charging but the batt life is fantastic. I use it on an average 2 hrs a day (with my 2018 iPad Pro) and in a course of a year, I don’t charge it more than 4 times, and that’s even before it becomes weak.

Previously was using a Benks detachable keyboard case, which honestly is good. However, i realise i hardly use the trackpad, cos i still prefer to use a Bluetooth mouse.

The only drawback of the Logitech Slim Folio Pro is that it’s definitely not slim.
Bit damm .. the keyboard (with backlit keys) is amazing to use. It’s much better than the Apple keyboard.

1. Takes only the initial couple of hours. Bit I’ve been a MacOS user for many years already.
2. Logitech Slim Folio Pro
3. iPad is wifi only. And yes, its akin to hot spotting via my iPhone. But the process is seamless and automatic.
4. Yes. Using a USB-C adapter to HDMI. Together with the keyboard and mouse, i hardly look at the iPad but at the screen. I think we need to wait for WWDC and hopefully they allow a secondary/extension screen support. Now its only duplicate.

I agree with you that it's not exactly that slim but also not too bulky, the bulkiness most probably is the addition of the battery in the keyboard.

Logitech have among the best keyboards and mice I've ever used, the keyboards are very tactile and very responsive, an absolute joy to type on. Comparing it to my M1 MBP's magic keyboard, the magic keyboard's also very good and responsive. The only difference I can feel is the small key travel on the magic keyboard.

Question:
How do you stop this silly (and rather annoying) bar from popping up when typing? It normally appears right the bottom of the iPad screen.

Thanks. On the cover for IPP, I realised I have not take into acct the "total" weight of the tablet with case. Did a check and surprised at the total hands-on weight which just again confirm my decision to go with the 11" rather than the 12.9".
IPP 11 + Logitech Combo Touch = 466g + 574g = 1,040g
IPP 12.9 + Logitech Combo Touch = 682g + 780g = 1,462g

Hope there will be positive news from the upcoming WWDC for laptop replacement user like me.🤞🤞🤞

Thanks .. that works for me too.
I think that function helps .. for those typing via the screen keyboard. But its kinda annoying when one has a physical keyboard & that thing just gets in the way.

Just an update.
Bought a UGreen 5-1 USB-C adapter for <$30, and it works great. Just plug & play. Includes PD charging also.

Actually I'm used to that and doesn't get in the way for me. It's useful when at times you wish to type a longer word or not sure exactly how to spell it, just tap for faster input.

I find the iPad Pro has some limitations. For example in zoom, can’t share ppt, word and must convert to PDF before can share

My company gonna get me and my asst manager Ipad Pro so i gotta raise the PO.

Issue now is if i tag along their order and get myself another additional Ipad Pro, my procurement manager told me to take all 3 Ipad Pros in installlment payment so its easier for her to work out the details and submit.

For this kind of order, i saw on Apple's website, only can order 2 Ipad Pro 12.9 per order?

As per Apple it states two 11” and two 12.9” per customer. So if you already have two 12.9”, your third one will have to be 11”.
