actually it is good. more flexibility... the extra little bit more battery is negligible especially 18 pro series battery has huge improvement.
In previous years (iPhone 16 Pro series or earlier) there was no such distinction in battery life. eSIM back then was still not as mainstream so I would also prefer the physical + eSIM model.

But now in 2026 literally every telco in Singapore offers eSIM including all the MVNOs so I was hoping Apple would finally allocate eSIM only model for Singapore to have the extra battery life. Even with the big battery improvements for this year’s model I still prefer to have more battery capacity as it helps to offset the battery degradation over time. I guess another year of wait then for myself for iPhone 20 Pro.

iPhone Model

eSIM-Only Model (e.g., US, Canada)Physical SIM Model (e.g., China, International)Net Capacity Difference
iPhone 18 Pro4,288 mAh4,056 mAh+232 mAh (~5.7% more)
iPhone 18 Pro Max5,567 mAh5,391 mAh+176 mAh (~3.3% more)

So basically
-better main camera
-new modem
-faster chip (each year)
-longer battery life (probably 1-2hr extra in real world usage?)
-new colours (each year)
-smaller dynamic island

Not sure if it's worth 500+ dollars price difference with 17pm 512gb.

Current used market value for 17PM 256GB is $1.3k and topup difference to 18PM 256GB is almost $800.

Seeing $MU in my portfolio take off, I decided to pull the trigger last month and bought the brand new iPhone 17 Pro 256GB for S$1,400 and two 17 Pro Max 256GB for S$1,500 each. I upgraded all the iPhones in my household at once, effectively locking in the old prices and avoiding this crazy price hike.
But if you hold on the purchase, can buy iphone duo next year?

the 18 pro series can last more than a day given its battery capacity which is more than sufficient. that's why even with eSIM model the extra battery life will not make such significant difference than before.
