Today marks exactly 1 month from the official launch date of iPhone X (November 3rd). In contrast to forecasts about a severe shortage in supply due to an unparalleled high demand, iPhone X of all models have been widely available online as well as in store across over 70 countries, in just 1 month after it was released. This great-availability for a flagship iPhone version (i.e., excluding those like iPhone 5C/SE/8) is unprecedented; for a comparision, 9 weeks after the release date, the lead time for iPhone 6 Plus is still 3 to 4 weeks.

iPhones were used to be the phone establishing new standards for smartphones (large multi-touch screen, fingerprint sensor, Siri...). However, as of 2017, iPhone X, the best iPhone ever, has become a follower of Android phones out there in term of technology (wireless charging, bezel less screen...). In the past, iPhone used to own its league with the only notable competitor being Samsung. Nowadays, other than flagship Samsung phones, those like LG V30+, Google Pixel 2 XL, Huawei Mate 10 Pro, Xiao Mi Mix 2... are also showing their own competitive advantages that an iPhone does not have.

Is iPhone no longer as hot as it was, and the era of iPhone is going to be over soon?

Hype or not, I don't know. However, if you look at the number of people actually using in public versus the crowd and demand on 3rd Nov (including Telcos), the numbers do not match.

Thats 15 million in a month.

But then again, we will only know the accurate sales figure by looking at Apple's financial conferences calls for the upcoming quarter. Exactly one year ago, in their holiday quarter, Apple sold about 78 million iPhones.

Supply has nothing to do with demand. Apple has clearly improved their manufacturing process to churn out more sets.

It's old news that Apple lacks innovation (touchscreen, fingerprint scanners, etc.). Even Apple Pay is not new, Japan has mobile wallet since ten years ago. What Apple does best is refining the tech so much that people will adopt it.

I don't think it is the beginning of Apple's downfall. Android's software and hardware integration is still poor unlike Apple. Until that is settled, user experience will forever lag Apple.

Unless you are a AAPL investor, it shouldn't concern you anyway. You just buy the best phone that you can afford.

To answer the questions why I created this thread, in which some even said I come from other forums to smash iPhone X. First, I am an iPhone X user who got an iPhone X on November 3rd. You can track my old posts to see, I even uploaded my iPhone X photos. Then why am I writing this? Definitely not to create a war. Exactly 1 month I have used iPhone X, what I feel is “apart from Face ID and the bezel less screen, it feels exactly like a normal phone”, just like the other member said. And even such good features do come with trade off, like sometime my FaceID cannot unlock my face due to unknown reasons. iPhone X is indeed a good phone, but I feel like it is just not worth the money that I have spent, sometime I even feel it is a downgrade from Samsung S8, thus the question if it is a hype is raised.

Some people just blindly defend their choices, whatever they chose must be the best. Others dont care what is happening out there, as long as they are happy with what they have, they dont look for a chance for improvement. I am different, I constantly reflect and review what I have done to find opportunities to do it better next time.

X tested the threshold of consumer willingness to spend 1888 on a mobile phone, frankly other than diehard fans, normal consumers might find it hard to swallow, but than again Apple target audiences are youngsters who spend their rich parents money or young adults who wish to be seen as trendy.
