Thanks for your reply. This unit out of the box is like that already. Maybe the recon guy didn't do a good job. Worse case I will take it apart and use as spare parts. I ordered 2 from woot.com and the other one is ok.

BTW I entered the serial no. and the warranty is one year. :D

That is the risk you have to take for getting a recon one, if you reside in US still not so bad as there's a 90 days warranty. If they know it's out of US, warranty voild immediately.

Try cleaning the sensor and check whether the wheels are clean. Since there's no warranty liao might as well dismantle it and do a deep cleaning.

Supposely the green one should be better lol. But both still have unsealed bearings that allows dirt to get into the gearbox and preventing smooth rotation which can cause overheating.

Looks like you have to change your avatar man. You got no transformer liao!!!

Haha ... ya, I think they shd just seal the thing to prevent dust from getting in those hard to clean area. :)

Haha .... Ya, my avatar need to update. Anyone wanna buy my transformer? ;p

yehey! got my roomba 550 today:s12:

but the manufacturing date is Sep2008 so it still got the red CHM with straight bristle brush.
i registered it and got 1 yr warranty. it's now charging..16 hrs seems too long:(

question, if it's already more than 1 yr manufactured and stocked, is the battery life affected?

As long as it's new and you tahan for 16hrs, it will be good. Anyway, there's no way we know how long has batt be sitting in the warehouses, it cld be much earlier than Sep 2008 :)

Where did you get this 550 from? Amazon?

If you want to mod your charger instead of getting a transformer, you can contact me at 81254240. Few bros here used my service.

Got some even use a brand new transformer and blow the original PSU. You might want to consider modifying instead of getting a transformer.

Don't think you need additional battery for roomba so early. Get it after 1-2 yrs when you experience an extremely low run time, but then again you can try to reset the batteries memory that time.

You might need additional batteries if you want to run scooba for additional mission.

Roomba 560 recon USD 190 at ebay. USD50 above woot off. Worth?

A lot actually depends on luck. The "remanufactured" can means a lot. In US they allows store return with no question ask and if you are lucky, you get a set which is in excellent condition as the buyer simply don't like it and return.

On the other hand if you get a returned set that is problematic and irobot simply repair it and repack as recon set again, the problem might surface again.

However, all the remanufactured set looks totally new in cosmetic appearance which you can't tell it's used. If you strike gold, you got a good deal at US$189 thats almost half the price.

So what is the best way to get replacement battery for Roomba and Scooba?

I think there's someone selling batt in HWZ too. Do a search. Personally, I am using new compatibles for my 535 and 340. It has been working all right for a few months. ;)

After trying to read 400+ pages...

The roomba looks like a good solid choice but there's only mention of one alternative which is the cleanmate QQ1/2, which is also good but slightly slower right?

On the irobot website there are so many models, can someone who knows the product indepth give a breakdown on the differences between the 58x, 56x, 55x, 52x and 4xx models as they have the same descriptions on the website and no specifications...

Also, does anyone know where and how much the samsung and lg robot vacuums are sold as they seem to have 2 side brushes instead of 1. Tried doing some searches but I couldn't find any results.

Thanks for the replies...
