After trying to read 400+ pages...

The roomba looks like a good solid choice but there's only mention of one alternative which is the cleanmate QQ1/2, which is also good but slightly slower right?

On the irobot website there are so many models, can someone who knows the product indepth give a breakdown on the differences between the 58x, 56x, 55x, 52x and 4xx models as they have the same descriptions on the website and no specifications...

Also, does anyone know where and how much the samsung and lg robot vacuums are sold as they seem to have 2 side brushes instead of 1. Tried doing some searches but I couldn't find any results.

Thanks for the replies...
Some retailers sell diff model numbers from main irobot store, but they are the same, just that colors or accessories maybe diff. :o

The samsung new Tango robovac does not receive a good review at roombareview although with it's new mapping technology. It's does not does edges well as compared to roomba and also tends to miss out certain area although it's suppose to map the whole house.

Comparing the price of the Samsung or LG. Roomba still seems to be a better buy.

I have a QQ1 too and all I have to say is it has a nice UV light feature that kills germs as it cleans. It's also better with pet's furball as it picks them up better than roomba in a single pass as roomba tends to blow some of it aside only to picks them up later or blows them aside again.

However having said that, I still think roomba's lorgarithm is much clever than cleanmate.

I think there may be a difference in the newer 5xx series (confusing!), they may have a new dustbin design minus the squeegee, i.e. the vacuum draws air in directly from the main dirt compartment. The filter design is also different, very much like the overseas 550 Aero model. Its also more silent.

just-i, the '5'XXX from iRobot denotes the 5th generation, which mean improved version of the software algorithm and also in the design ( brush, filter .etc). The link provided by mosmos has a great comparison chart for you.

It also depend on what you need. If you just want to have a robot that basically cleans your house, you may look at 510, but this does not come with the base station. If you need a base station ( so that your robot can go back to the station for charging when low in power ), you may go to the next model 530. If you also need a on-board scheduler, then go for 550 or higher...etc

hope this help. :s12:

Thanks for the replies.

So I know it doesn't do corners that well, but it's not too much of a problem, as long as the pathways where people walk is clean. Can't stand dirty feet! ;)

But I heard from some friends that I shouldn't get it as I have laminate flooring and it will scratch it. Thinking about it, over time when the brushes and wheels wear out, will the bare plastic or metal start scratching the floor? My wife will kill me if that happens...

Mystrix, I was commenting that the price tag is too expensive for me. In my opinion, the 380 only has a better holding charge compare to 330 ( I may be wrong ). In the ebay market today, this USD350 is a great price. :D

mystrix, go to ebay. Someone by name josian_3 is selling 380 ( never used ) at USD350 but you need to pay the shipping charge. He is asking for best offer so you may be able to take out the shipping cost.

need some help

anyone managed to buy from Irobot.com using Singapore Credit card and shipped to Borderlinx or Vpost etc.

Otherwise, if they dont accept Singapore CC, anyone managed to pay with paypal account.

Urgent because they are having promotion now. If cannot then must get US issued CC.
Thanks!

mosmos
any idea anot. Thanks

I am not very sure about the payment system now. :(

Last time i used google checkout to buy scooba and then accessories, no problem with sg CC.

However, for most usa websites, you can't pay by sg CC, but you can use payapl or google checkout. :o
