actually the GST is supposedly based on CIF, i.e. item price, insurance and freight. So if CIF hits S$400, u have to pay 7% GST

Roomba newbie

Got very excited after reading this thread. Would love a Roomba and eventually a Scooba too.

From your experience, could you all help me choose which Roomba and where to buy? I'm actually from KL, but the discovery model here is super ex at RM1699 or SGD738!!!

My brother is in Singapore, so I can easily get one delivered there.

Munyi13,

Nice to know that we are going to have one more Roomba owner :s12:

Roombas and Scoobas arent cheap over here in Singapore, almost just as expensive as what you'll be paying in KL. Assuming u'll be getting the latest generation of Roombas, it'll be either the 530, 560 or the 570. Now, do u need the Roomba to come out on its own at yr scheduled timing to vacuum? In addition, do u need a remote control. If u do, go for the 570 (stocks only coming in Sept), else settle for the 560. If u do not neeed scheduling functionality, then take the 530. However, there's an in-between model called the 535 at www.hsn.com, currently available at a very attractive offer. However HSN, like many other US retailers, do not ship ex-US nor accept ex-US issued credit cards. Your best bet is to get someone in US to purchase these items and ship them back to u. If u dont know of anyone, u can try asking for a favour at Roombareview forum (http://www.roombareview.com/chat/). There should be some helpful chaps there. You can also visit www.irobot.com & check out their online store for more details and pricing for the Roombas. They are currently having a 20% promo discount for the bots.

Good Luck! :)

I don't think it's worth paying RM1699 for discovery. I got discovery fm www.woot.com, total cost including vpost delivery is abt SG$300

maybe yr brother can also get from www.gkrobots.com

With $928, I think more worthwhile to buy direct from local distributor.

At least got 1 year warranty from local disti.

GKrobots's only has 14 days warranty.

I think not worth it!

Is it possible to order from HSN and use vpost for delivery? What is the price range of the delivery by vpost?

I am not sure whether HSN accept our sg credit card. :s22:

For my past vpost shipment,

Scooba 380 = $128, excluding GST :s22:

Scooba 5800 = $70, no gst

roomba discovery = $50, no gst

:)

Checked out the i robot site. Don't seem to have any 20% anymore :(

Am eyeing the 560. Don't need the remote control, but thought the schedular function is pretty neat.

Just wondering, if the new generation roomba is supposed to slow down before hitting an obstacle, it will be finishing it's task of vacumming much slower compared to the previous ones right? Especially if around table or chair legs?

BTW, how does a roomba work under a dining table, actually? It must be noisy with it crashing into the legs?!

There was a video comparing 560 to a Discovery. In terms of straight line full speed, the 560 is actually quicker. Unless u have lots of obstacles @ home, i doubt the 560 will be slower (if at all) in terms of overall cleaning speed.

Roomba works fine under the dining table, as long as u allow it sufficient space to go underneath. Roomba doesnt exactly goes crashing into table legs and chairs. Depending on its angle of approach, it may just bump into the legs a couple of times but will subsequently be able to go AROUND the legs. If u r concern with noise, just add some bumper guard/foam around the Roomba's bumper. This however should be less of an issue for the new series.

Hi....

mate of mine is in Boston and will be coming over soon.

Anyone knows if its cheaper for him to bring over a Scooba than to buy online?
(btw I don't even know if they are sold in US shops, googling only shows online shops. Are they?)

Thanks all

It should be cheaper as you can save on shipping costs. Unless he's near retailers/warehouses selling iRobot products, perhaps u can ask yr friend to purchase on behalf from US online stores. Some of them may provide free shipping within US, or for a minimal extra fee. He can hand carry the products back to u then. :) New Roomba 535 at www.hsn.com. Cheap refurbished Scooba 5800s at www.ecost.com!

I have been a Scooba user since Nov last year.

Juz wanna give my 2 cents worth,

Scooba is a wonder, really helps but u gotta clean it thoroughly after every clean or dirt will jam inside, like mine. Had to send to the local distributor (JA) for service and that's when I found out that their service is sub-zero!

If I ever need another Scooba, will never get it from them, high price and poor service... would rather get from gkrobot or online..
