Hope somebody can give some hint on what's wrong with my iRobot Roomba 550.

I bought a Newstar 100W step-down transformer. Initially it charged fine, but stop after half an hour. No light at transformer nor adaptor.

Then I bought a Newstar 80W step-down transformer. No light on adapter and no charging at all. Got red light on transformer, and a sizzling sound for a while, then the transfomer explode, with light, smoke and loud sound.

Is the adapter spoilt? Or I need to get a better transformer? Thanks.

For transformer, did you put the switch at the correct voltage? :s11:

input from supply mains should be 220v and output to your roomba power adapter should be 110v. :o

I opened it up to look inside (and it's hot for a few seconds of work), I think most part has melted away. There is even black substance that spills over through closing.

is there a fuse in it ?
my fuse broke after using for a few hours.. then replace it and it last until today.. around 2yrs..

Yah much better if you need this function to clean each room properly.

For my roomba 400 series, I just let it roam around w/o any virtual wall. No problem with that, still can vacuum the rooms quite cleanly :o

sgd420 is quite a good price.
