New Roomba owner

Just came back from US and picked up a brand new Roomba 560.

I was aware of the other competitive products, but they just never made it to launch before my trip, so, Roomba was chosen.

1st trial run showed some of its limitations:

1. I have a light weight coffee table in the living room. Roomba knocks on the legs with a force that moves it out of place. The stuffs on the table was knocked off :s31:.

I will be buying some of those pads to stick them at the bottom of the legs, so to increase friction. Hope that works.

2. The roomba does not seems to recognise that the sliding door tracks are forbidden territories. It attempt to cross it and it dropped into the balcony.

Solution is to deploy a VW. I do not have C-batteries at home, So yet to do this.

3. There is a drop of about 3cm that leads into the bathroom. Roomba apparently does not recognise this and run into the bathroom. eventually got stuck there.

I have to close the bathroom door to prevent it from going in.

4. Roomba does not handle those rugs I place at the bathroom door well. I got stuck, and I have to free it from the rug manually. Short term solution is to move the rugs out of place during cleaning.

How do you guys solve this:s11::s11::s11:

You already answered all the question :) However, the coffee table might still pose a problem unless you try the keep-off mat from robot addon.

I'm looking for a long term solution for the rug at toilet problem as I was planning to let Roomba does its stuff when I am away during work.

It would be quite a hassle to clear the rugs on it's clean-days

any thoughts anyone:s11::s11:

First if all, adjust yr expectations. it is a great tool to help in daily chores. But to expect the machine to function likea human is over-expecting things lo. It is still a dumb machine afterall.

Best is to let it run while i'm at home doing other stuff.

n going in thru those laminated mini kerb... if its not high enough, the machine will defintely goes over it. go n buy the batteries or use something to block the area. i am making use of my wii board hahhaaa

Brought it back in the check-in luggage. The box it came with is quite a size. Seems too big for the airline to allow carry-on. Anyway the box seems quite sturdy for some abuse.

For now I try to close the door when it is cleaning. I think I need more than the 2 virtual walls included in the package to cover all the forbidden territories, should have ordered more virtual walls.:s27::s27:

Scooba got less problem with rugs as compared to roomba. Roomba will go over it and get caught onto the mainbrush or sidebrush. I basically change all those rugs into those floormat where the underneath is a big piece of antiskid like material. This way roomba will go over and vacuum it instead of tangling it.
