Thanks but it seems that HEPA filters are more of a hassle to clean... since i'd need a blower to do it. I'm more interested in the VR100's filter and brush. If i dont have an XV-11, i'd go for the VR100!!!!

i am getting too lazy to mop the floor so decided it's time to take out the cheque book to get an irobot roomba 560 and scooba 380. i think these 2 models are the top sellers on irobot usa, so if it works there, it should work here too

thanks to various online sellers of irobot who take the trouble to Pm me their prices. now i realise there are quite a few online sellers of irobot here in singapore. Anyway, I am not surprised as the authorised distributor here is selling the irobot at such exorbitant prices, much much higher compared to what irobot USA is selling on their website in US. I wonder why ?
having said this, I did some further checking to see how much I would have to pay if I buy the irobot directly from amazon or ebay (or from irobot.com) and add in the shipping charges from USA to Singapore, I am actually quite surprised that the prices come up to almost at par with the highest price i am being quoted here on HWZ and almost $150 more expensive than the cheapest price I was quoted here on HWZ.
This sets me thinking. How do these online sellers do it ? how do they manage to sell these US irobot sets imported by air, having to pay the air-shipment charges, add 7% GST and probably 10% (very minimum and conservative percentage) profit margin and yet the highest price is almost same cost that i would pay if i import directly myself from amazon, pay for the shipping charges and 7% GST on arrival in Singapore. MInd you, this means the highest online seller is not going to make any profit and the cheapest seller will sell at a loss.
Well, we know this is not going to be possible - selling at a loss.

so does anyone here know if they are really selling brand new irobot sets and not refurbished to like-new condition sets. I think for them to make any profit, they need to buy the refurbished or used set, that comes in original box, have them touched up, box sealed and passed it off as brand new set to unsuspecting buyers.

isn't this a very high possibility? so perhaps for us who are keen to buy parallel imports of irobot, just be extra cautious and really ask and check thoroughly before paying your hard-earned money to the seller.

A1. Do u think iRobot distributor here, or any outside USA, went thru special courses to repair iRobot?
The answer is NO. Most repairs are shipped back to US for warranty claim. So u're in fact paying insurance fee which must cover all possible Freight Cost within warranty period.

A3. U're unlikely to get an answer here, since the active forummers here either bought iRobot on their own, or are sellers.
I don't know about others, but my past 3+ yrs of eBay track record don't lie. I have NEVER used a fake account to give self-appraisal, all my feedbacks are for selling iRobot products, not cheap sale items sold below cost to boost feedbacks score since that's typical of 99 cts eBay scammers.

haha, unobliss, i think i know who you are referring to - Autovacstore. I have checked out the website but I would not buy from them. They are the cheapest around, which I think something has to be compromised. They are probably selling refurbished irobot passing off as brand new set. furthermore, in their website, it is clearly indicated that they do not provide charger for use in Singapore. One of my friend who dealt with them a few months ago informed me that they have old charger, that's why they cannot sell them in Singapore. "Old chargers" - doesn't that tell you that their irobots must be old sets hence the charger is old. Hahaha. Old sets = refurbished sets. But they claim in the website it is brand new set. refurbished sets on Amazon is available for USD$ 200+ only, and Autovacstore is selling for SGD$ 529 (about USD$410) which means they make almost 100% profit. Of course with this profit they can afford to sell extra warranty for just $11 only.
But a lot of would-be buyers out there would not be able to smell a rat, even if it was staring them in the eye.

these robots are not like other household products which can be refurbished easily as these guys run around all over the places and knock everywhere. hence, there will scratches and dusts etc.
and, you could also register at iRobot webbie and see if they give you warranty(1 year for brand new and 90 days for remanufactured).

Bro. refurbished mean total makeover, from old make it look like new one but it is used.
These robots can be easily refurbished like new just by changing cover, brushes and etc....

Not surprise that those selling cheap iRobot Roomba are refurbished, it just does not make any business sense to sell and make miserable profit. Just my honest opinion.

ok, after some googling, i found the differences...the remanufacured is branded with "R" the unit itself and the packaging box is also different with "Remanufactured" printed...think iRobot also not stupid enuff to think consumer stupid enuff to buy those remanufactured as brand new...

The serial number can differentiate it from new or remanufactured. The box is the first indication but in my years of experience dealing with iRobot, I've seen repackaged remanufactured box without the word "Remanufactured" imprinted & the serial number barcode was totally removed. People will go through all expense just to outsmart you.

If you know the product, you can easily differentiate with one look. The faceplate is also another indication if you know how to tell.
