Is down to heng suay when it comes to board reliability. Is no longer in the old days where MSI uses cheap caps on amd am2 am3 boards. Gone are those days with old caps.

Now if you look closely with all brands. All are using good components. Be it good caps, good diodes, good heatsink etc. They are being used from h81 board all the way to z97 board.

So does asrock really good or really sucks. It all boils down to heng suay. No brands wanna loose market share. No brands wanna produce worse quality boards and shoot at their own legs.

I chose MSI over other boards, coming from ex giga users reason being the convenience of board RMA and also the features im looking for. Also the component layout is good and in favor of wire routings.

hi TS,

Asrock user here. Just to share my experience. Bought asrock extreme 4 2011.In 2013 Lan port spoiled, brought down to RMA and they gave me spare mobo to use. 4 Days later went to pick up a refurbished set (at least i think it is), came with full packaging.

So overall to me, worth every dollar, not to mention they are cheaper than premium brands.

Hope this helps you make a decision.

Full packaging is 1-1 exchange already. It is a new one since you claimed that it is with full package.

So you're telling me that boards of B75M-DGS and B75MA-P45 calibre are safety hazards? I'll just reiterate what I said before;

from http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/84839344-post21.html

As in whats ur defination of low end for asrock? Extreme 4 and below? Or those dgs,hds models?

If ppl on budget, den recommend asus maximus vii hero/ranger/formula/gene meh?

I wouldn't suggest ASUS either. If you want to use a low-end mobo look towards GB.
Ask tamjinhang his problems with low-end ASRock boards..

I wonder what does spyboy48 say about ASRock :s22:
Also I used to be building rigs like tam and terence52 and I had many MSI boards blow up on the low-end and ... they aren't FM2/FM2+ or AM3 or AM3+
and many failed ASRock boards.
And yes I do repair PCs that's how I know about their failure rate

:s13:
it is just a circuit board for God sake.
TS just need a basic board, he doesn't need high end electronics component soldered onto it.

So I can skimp on trace widths and PCB thickness leading to running on the edge literally?
I didn't say anything about buying a Extreme6. Buy a Gigabyte board and do not look back.

I am an EE student just in case you're wondering

Lols anyway if its just a simple rig then just get then asrock ba... Anything wrong still got warranty cover de ma no worries. Imo all boards got chances to blow de. Be it whatever japanese cap then use. Like everyday my samsung original charger also blow on me even though its good cap.

If I really am a fanboy why did I buy a ASUS mobo? Or ASRock?

It's samsung. Or in other words bad design and underspec'd components.
You can use good components all you want but if they are underspec'd they will still have their lifespan severely shortened.

Thats why usage is important. If going to overclock etc, definitely should go for a good board.

But TS said the comp is meant for surf net and climb hill........ So any board will do.

Same thing for other components. No point asking TS to buy a 1000W Platinum PSU also. No point having 16GB RAM, 780Ti or 290x for surfing net.

I bought my ASRock P67 Pro3SE (LGA1155 i2600K) about 2 years back and haven't had any issues so far.

16gb, 3hdd, bluray reader, 560Ti, 650wPSU and no mobo issues.

ASRock website carries firmware/driver updates.

If I had to build again, I would definitely include ASRock as one of the candidates.

Not just caps. Nowadays board standards have been increased in terms of quality. Be it asus , MSI, giga, asrock.

In terms of durability. Heck if its whatever branding. They got good jap capacitors and also other components used.

When someone just say a giga board is the best in terms of entry level, it simply just shows that they either being milk by brands to buy expensive boards only. Or simply thinks that just because he builds a lot of PC and just say that a lot of explosive boards comes from entry level which is entirely not true. Numbers in the hwc already proven that the results are inconclusive.

To know how good quality the board is don't just looks at caps.

- OC boards usually have 6-8layers of PCB. Be it whatever brand you choose from.
- Non oc boards usually have 4-6layers of PCB.
- Entry level board uses the same quality components as the higher grade mobo. Only difference is the chipset. H81 B85 is entry level which lacks most features like lesser sata ports. Lacks front USB header, lacks lesser back USB ports and lacks other stuffs and features. Instead of side mounting ports they use top surface mount. Which greatly reduce the overall cost of the board.
- Number of power phases. Normally a h81 to b85 and h87/97 will have 4-6 power phases. When one says it explodes, I have no clue how the user use for an entry board. On oc capable boards they have 8 power phases onwards.

I fully agreed.

Just like you wont use end user components for a server board (where reliability is key), you don't need high end board for mainstream usage as well.

ahh, sorry i phrased my question poorly so u cudn't get my qns.
if i wanted to "look closely" to spot any "cheap caps" on boards, i'd like to know wat u saw in those problem boards tat fell into ur label of "cheap caps"...
thx again :)

Ah ok understand that.

Back in those days electrolytic capacitors were found on MSI boards and other boards such as Biostar and ECS, that was way back in 2002-2005. It prematurely kills most AM boards made by them as AMD users usually oc their chip as their chips were mostly unlocked. Later they were found on older gen intel boards. User will find bloated caps after a few months down the road when they run on heavy oc and eventually just died.

Cheap caps are easily noticeable when you have poor system stability when CPU voltages fluctuates or go out of range voltages. It may cause BSOD and also some times results in hotter cpu temps due to slightly over volt.

Now most of it are using Solid Caps capacitors. You can see by the capacitor coverings and being much solid than just those traditional Electrolytic Capacitors.

Still have meh? I thought those days of cheapo caps were gone already?

Back then, I know all those cheapo caps will bloat... Actually its not due to the cost of the caps but rather defective electrolyte formula in the caps.

Remember the story about someone stole the formula for the electrolyte but its incomplete.

But don't see it much these days already. Not with tier 1 board manufacturers. Mostly are Nichicon, United Chemicon, Rubycon etc......

But cheapo caps still resides in PSUs these days.... so I would rather invest $$$ in a good PSU.

I got to agree that don't go for asrock low end. If u need something cheap, i'll go for asus. Same service centre anyway. Have bought a few asrock and asus low end motherboards. Both brand have failures but asrock happens more frequently.
