So which brand and model
Budget less than $200
You recommend

i bought one of those very big ones.. long time back ... works very well.
and native resolution already is 1080p , not 720p.

those mini ones.. for cheap ones.. usually will get the 720p and lumens is not bright enough for daylight watching.

u compare the lumos one with the shopee one.. u can see ...it's same thing.

anyway, now lumos.. knows their lobang pichar... price drop till nearly $200 also.. lol..

Below is a list of brands overstating their trade descriptions, often quoting lumens at over 10 times higher or suggesting its Full HD or even 4k when its a much lower resolution, amongst others.

This is by no means an exhaustive list of dodgy projector brands. The same companies are using different brand names which get changed regularly to avoid detection. There are many more out there but if the number of lumens appears too high for the price then, unless its a used item, then you have to question whether it is a genuine or a fake description.

Overstated lumens at the Higher-end

The Anker Nebula is quoted in most online specifications at a massive 3000 lumens

• but only offers 500 ansi lumens

The Viewsonic X10-4K offers 2,400 lumens but as seen on the Video HERE - it compares to less than 1900 ansi lumens on a Chiq B5U projector.

SUMMARY: Tips to Avoid Buying Fake Projectors from Amazon & Online

  1. Claims its New < £80: If it's brand new and less than £80, don't bother. The projector is more than likely being way over sold by a Chinese company. LED projectors of any decent quality that are new with DLP and a minimum genuine lumens of 50 lumens start at £150 / €180 / $195
  2. DLP? - Ensure the projector has Texas Instruments DLP, this provides superior image quality and is the industry standard.
  3. States "use in a dark room" - If the projector has over 200 lumens and states "Use in a dark room", usually means its less than 50 lumens so avoid
  4. 1080p - this is one of the biggest lies - It should say "supports" 1080p ie supports Full HD but instead they just claim its Full HD when in fact its probably 2 or 3 grades down from that at VGA resolution - whats in a word eh !
  5. Catches Fire - If it says "it needs to be turned off after 2-4 hours", give it a miss. It is more than likely dangerous and prone to catching fire. It has been made very cheaply and so key safety processes can easily be missed.
  6. Common Sense - If it sounds too good to be true, it is!! Remember if you buy cheap you usually end up buying twice so just buy the product that's right for you first time around.

SOLD BUT LEAVING THIS POST HERE FOR OTHERS TO KNOW ISSUE <- this is very serious, Singapore has no government already? Until buyers need to take this into their own hands?

Singapore law does not protect us from online purchases?

I am using smart Lumos projector and has been using almost 4-5times every week for 1 to 2 movies at each setting in my room.

Reason for purchasing: Cheap

If you just purchase the smart version of Lumos projector only, it comes with Netflix and YouTube. However, it is quite lag and the picture quality is extremely poor (I realised the difference after I used my Xiaomi TV box connect to my Lumos via HDMI)

Using Xiaomi TV box with Lumos, it serves all our needs. We can watch Disney+, Netflix and also watch videos via our hard disk. Picture quality is acceptable, if you are not very fussy as at the corner, some parts are still blurry but its alright for us.

I think overall, Lumos still a good buy especially during the days my wife got QO in the room. Got Lumos to get through boredom.

We are still waiting for our BTO, once we get our keys, definitely will purchase high end brand so as to really enjoy the cinematic effect. For now, its sufficient.

Hi. Anyone knows how to change the audio language and even access to the search bar for Netflix?
