If you visit some of the top (and bookable) restaurants often enough, and strike up a relationship with the chef, he might be able to intro you one day to one of those secretive restaurants :D

That's another way. I better make sure to brush up my conversational Japanese and pray hard hard that I strike Toto many times! :s22:

U r eating sushi in Japan, need not strike Toto MANY times.....

Is expensive but is not too expensive....

Work along this range of 20k to 25k yen..... U r fine.....

To b honest above 30k yen without drinks is really over price to the Japanese.....

If got chance, try this shop call Shintaro 新太郎 in ginza....

His house pour sake is 七贤 ( brewery only produce 300 bottles per year )

Thus roughly u can guess what kinda reputation the chef have among the Japanese....

Dinner all in confirm cheaper than the one u had tried during your last visit to Japan....

Hetheone have you been to those that you've recommended?

Yes, it was pricey. My SO deemed it as a performance. And we did enjoy it. Instead our experience at Hidemi Sugino wasn't too good. One hour plus of waiting to get a table and no more Ambroisie. Only managed to order 5 eat-in and 1 takeout cakes with drinks and we paid more than ¥6,000, plus no pics allowed.

For Hidemi Sugino, you can either go real early or real late (if you're ok with the limited selection later).

I like his stuff, but K Ki at Dhoby Ghaut makes a similar style of cakes and is very good too, in my opinion.

Yea, we were early, just unlucky. But some customers ordered more than 1 Ambroisie. So too bad. Lol. Another time then.

Lower end hotels might not have such a service provided. Just drop an email to your hotel and see if the staff would be willing to help you.

A few more yakitori places for your consideration -
1. Takesan 丈参 at Ningyocho
2. Torisawa 鳥さわ at Kameido
3. Bunchan 文ちゃん at Iidabashi
4. Torie 鳥恵 上野広小路 at Ueno Hirokōji

Yes had eaten at those mention restaurant , some I still continue patronise while some I wil never go back again..... ( over price, not worth )

I recommend Shintaro to u, because I feel it within bookable range......
( if u walk in n he is fully book, he wil arrange another good sushi joint for u in ginza )

And it a good benchmark..... ( u have to start off somewhere to compare )

U will enjoy more if u r a sake fan......

If u into raw chicken breast n inner parts..... Then can give it a try....

If wana try mix of chicken n some pork then a yakitori shop call Hachibei is good enuf...

There is one shop in Nakameguro, up n coming star for yakitori.....

While eating yakitori try their " chu hai " goes well with it......

Any worthwhile restaurant for family of 10pax for lunch and dinner in Ueno or Asakusa?

Prefer seafood be it raw or cook...:D

We will be transiting to Karuizawa and Hakone via car driving. Any recommendation?

How much does lunch and dinner cost at Tokami? Is it that good? It doesn't accept reservation?

Our dinner for two pax in April cost us ¥58,000 with one glass of beer. You need to make a reservation. Lunch is cheaper - ¥8,000 to ¥12,000, depending on what you're ordering.
