to minimise transfer, maybe u can head straight to Osaka on day 1. then use Osaka as a base to visit Kyoto, Nara etc. stay in one location in Tokyo also.
that way u only need 2 hotels for the entire trip. 1 in Osaka, 1 in Tokyo.

Thanks man, sounds like a plan.

Wanted to run a check, what are the locations which kids could go to?

CO made a last min impromptu, wanted to go and see mount fuji if it doesnt take too long...

i think u have listed most of the places that is fun for kids. toyota showroom in odaiba shld be fun too.. lots of hands-on stuff for kids to try. for osaka, can go universal studio and cup noodle museum. u can DIY ur own cup noodle there.

for mt fuji, u can go lake kawaguchi or hakone. but hakone now got volcanic activities, so dunno safe to go or not. both can be done as a day trip from tokyo, but will be a bit rush coz of the travel time, so it will be better to stay a night there.

Need recommendation for dinner.

Will reach Haneda airport around 16.05 on a Sunday night.

If possible will take the 17.10 airport limousine to Sunroute Plaza.

Then maybe rest a while around 18.45 leave hotel for dinner.

Was thinking to have dinner around Shinjuku area and walk walk around there, but looking for other recommendation?

sorry, not familiar with food.
I usually just eat anything that is available.
if I remember correctly, there is a Ichiran ramen in Shinjuku. and there is also the famous melon buns in Shinjuku station that dimitri_can recommended

I usually stay in Hotel Kinki in Osaka. it is near Umeda station, with is very accessible with direct trains to most places in Osaka as well as to Kyoto, Nara etc.

for Tokyo, I usually stay in Ueno area for easy access to Narita. Ueno also has lots of cheap eateries.

Going during October 11 to October 17.
My itinerary currently as follow.
Any advise or recommendation?

Day 1 :

Land Haneda at 16:05, if possible will take the 1710 Airport Limousine, if not will have dinner at Airport and wait for 1910 Airport Limousine to Shinjuku. After check in hotel will maybe go the GU outlet at Shinjuku, and if after that enough time will go Government Building to see night view.

Day 2 :

Trying to look for a 1 day tour maybe to Mt Fuji ( Any recommendation for this? )

Day 3 :

Disneyland tentatively, but will wait closer date and see crowd calendar how. Don wish to go there and only able to take a few ride but spend a whole day. But also feel like going there for the atmosphere at least, since already fly to there liao haha. ( In dilema:s22: )

Day 4 :

Meiji Shrine, Yoyogi Park, Harajuku, Shibuya. ( Is going Meiji Shrine first more convinient or go Yoyogi Park first more convinient? )

Day 5 :

Tsukiji Market, Ueno Zoo, Character Street at Tokyo Station. ( Hope by then Tsukiji Market is still open. Wanted to go Zoo walk walk see cause only 600 Yen and gf want see Llama and parents feel that 600 Yen only can go walk walk see too. After that will go Tokyo Station for the character street. And may eat dinner at the ramen street too. )

Day 6 :

Currently is plan for Sensoji Shrine and Nakamise Shopping Street. But may cancel too if got any other place want to add in. Should be will go Ginza on this day, but currently plan still not up so don know how. Any recommendation for this day? Is it convinient to go Asakusa and Ginza on the same day? Or what other places can I add in together with Ginza?

Day 7 (Last day) :

Will walk around Shinjuku. Flight is 2050 at Narita, should be will take the 1520 airport limousine from hotel to narita. But like this will reach airport quite early. Or should I take the 1639 NEX to narita instead?

Accomodation already book Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku.

[how about putting Ginza on day 5 and ueno zoo on day 6?
coz Ginza is just beside tsukiji market, and Tokyo station is walkable from Ginza.
ueno and asakusa are near each other also. can visit Ameyoko street in ueno to buy snacks to bring back to sg. Akihabara is near ueno as well, so u may want to go since ueno and asakusa probably wun take up the whole day]

can consider adding in Tokyo tower on one of the nights if u have free time. Odaiba is also a good place to visit. but u will need reshuffle ur itinerary to fit in Odaiba. Odaiba will take at least half a day, and good to stay till dark coz the night view is great.

Okay, then for this will decide on the day or when its nearer.

Day 5 :

[Tsukiji market is only moving in Nov 2016, so still open.]

Oh.. Cause I read somewhere before say this year will close. Lucky! Anyway will just be going there to see and have breakfast. I don really take sashimi but my dad and gf do take so they can try the fresh sashimi down there.

Okay! Then I will swap Ginza and Ueno zoo. Then I think day 6 I will maybe go Asakusa first, then after that go Ueno Zoo. After Ueno Zoo if enough time will walk around Ameyoko Street. After that will head back to Shinjuku for dinner. Would like to have a meal which is abit more atas. Currently is plan for kani doraku shinjuku. Have any other suggestion for this?

Oh.. Okay.
Then any location to recommend to view it?
Any is within my itinerary one? :D

can refer to this list for observation decks:
http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e3057.html

Mori tower and WTC are probably the closest ones to Tokyo tower.
the rest are a bit further away.

if not just take from the ground somewhere near Tokyo tower, such from Zojiji temple.

you can try sunrise Japan tours. Professional and no nonsense tour guide fee. One day tour will normally begin with Tokyo station meetup by bus and end with Shinkansen ticket back to Tokyo. Very good experience and no I am not from any tour group but have used them twice.

Search for sunrise yours Japan. Many options to choose.

for Osaka and Kyoto, maybe just stay in one place to cut down on changing hotels? Osaka and Kyoto is only 30min apart, so can easily make day trips between the 2 places.

i personally think 9 days is a bit short for Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto. will be better to just focus on Osaka and Kyoto. can save money on transport between Kyoto and Tokyo also coz shinkansen is expensive. but i guess u already bought air tickets?

Hi all,

Will be heading to Japan in Dec with my gf and it will be the first time for us to go Japan. Would appreciate any feedback regarding our itinerary(still not finalized yet).

Flight info:
ARR Tokyo 01-Dec 0845
DEP Tokyo 14-Dec 1655.
Total Duration: ~14 days

Current plan of stay in different regions are:
Tokyo (5 days)
Osaka (3 days)
Kinosaki Onsen (1 day)
Kyoto (2 days)
Nara (1 day)
Return to Tokyo (1/2 day)

Places to visit in Tokyo
Central Tokyo
Tsukiji fish market, Akihabara, Ginza

Northern Tokyo
Ueno park, Ameyoko, Asakusa temple, Ameyoko

Western Tokyo
Shibuya, Shinjuku, Harajuku

Southern Tokyo
Odaiba, Tokyo tower

Outlying of Tokyo
Disneyland, Ghibli Museum

Places to visit in Osaka
USJ, Namba, Osaka castle, Pokemon centre, Sumiyoshi taisha,

1 day in Kinosaki Onsen
2 days in Kyoto
1 day in Nara
Return to Tokyo

Some questions I would like to ask are:

-Any mistake have i made in my planning? Still not too sure about the travelling details between places to places though..

-If i plan like this, what is the minimum hotel/accommodation do I need to book? (Plus I would like to stay in Ryokan for at least a night). Is it recommended to use Airbnb for everything?

-Which sequence should I visit in Tokyo? (e.g north in day 1, western in day 2 etc).

-Which JRpass should I get? And when should I activate it?

-Any important side trip/places that we have missed out? We selected all the above places from japan-guide.com and hence, there might be other must-go places that we have missed out. My gf and I would like to visit more of sightseeing/outlet shoppings/nice (roadside) food.

-Any good and must-go food places from the different regions?

-Should we add Hakone? will it be too rush for us?

Thanks in advance for answering my questions. I know the itinerary is still at a very primary stage. I plan to get everything sorted out, including booking of hotels/ryokan by Sep/Oct and hope it is not too late. :)

[refer to hyperdia for train. just key in the station name and search
http://www.hyperdia.com/]

-If i plan like this, what is the minimum hotel/accommodation do I need to book? (Plus I would like to stay in Ryokan for at least a night). Is it recommended to use Airbnb for everything?
[u can base urself in osaka to travel to kyoto and nara. for kinosaki, better to stay a night to enjoy ryokan in that onsen town. so u just need accom in tokyo, osaka and kinosaki.
airbnb is usually cheaper when u have a few ppl. for 2 ppl, hotels maybe cheaper. especially business hotel chains such as toyoko-inn and super hotel]

-Which sequence should I visit in Tokyo? (e.g north in day 1, western in day 2 etc).
[doesnt really matter. easy to get around within tokyo]

-Which JRpass should I get? And when should I activate it?
[u can get the 7-day JR pass since u are travelling from tokyo to osaka and back. the shinkansen rides will make the pass worth it.
JR pass is mainly to cover expensive train rides on shinkansen and ltd express trains. so activate it on the day u are travelling to osaka, and return to tokyo within the 7 days.]

[possible. u actually have more than 5 days in tokyo. so really depends on what u want to do in tokyo. but maybe just stick to tokyo and go at a more relax pace? good to have 2 days for hakone if want to go]

Thanks in advance for answering my questions. I know the itinerary is still at a very primary stage. I plan to get everything sorted out, including booking of hotels/ryokan by Sep/Oct and hope it is not too late. :)

some comments above

my suggestion for itinerary:
1 dec: head straight to osaka from airport
2-5 dec: osaka, kyoto, nara
6 dec: travel to kinosaki
7 dec: kinosaki to tokyo
8-14 dec: tokyo

reason for such an arrangement is to minimise changing of hotels.

1-7 dec is a bit squeeze coz trying to fit within 7 days of the JR pass. it is going to be very expensive to get single trip ticket (about 14000yen = $150) from osaka to tokyo if u are not covering it the JR pass.

i also placed osaka first instead of at the back coz it is better to be near ur airport on ur last day. just in case train disruption, u still got other ways to get from tokyo to the airport. if u are in osaka, u have no way to get to airport in time

Do take the retro Hankai Tramway from Tennoji to Sumiyoshi Taisha, nice local experience
