For day 1, u are bringing ur luggage to asakusa? Y not just check in first?
Day 2 maybe visit shibuya at night instead.. Shibuya is more vibrant at night, and is near harajuku, so can just walk if u want
U probably going to spend the whole day queueing at daiwa and dai. While i have not eaten either one before, i believe most sushi restaurants in tsukiji are of equal if not better standards

Wow.. I haven't been to most places in ur itinerary. I only spent a day in nagoya and visited only castle, osu kannon and oasis 21.

Not planning to stay overnight at Shirakawago?

First of all, many thanks for advice.

day 1, since i arriving 8am tokyo, and only one bagpack (plan to go light, return heavy) might as well go Asakusa first then Ike.

Shibuya, I'm just there visiting hachi, then off to the 2 gardens. Hara I plan to skip, nothing there for me and so crowded.

yup, sushi would be queue killer. went for dai last time, queue 4 hrs, so this time daiwa first, then dai again....thats why nothing plan after that.

p.s maybe go see miyazaki clock, its walking distance

Hi evilerniex,
I'm traveling solo and find the minshuku in Shirakawago too ex. So will still in Takayama instead. This is my fifth JP trip, never been to Nagoya and I prefer to be based in one or two places rather than changing hotels everyday. Getting old haha

U can refer to the trip reports in the sticky thread for some ideas.
For 6 days, maybe u can have 2 days for kyoto, 2 days for osaka, 1 for nara, and 1 for kobe+himeji

Any recommendations in where to travel in the Chubu region? I think carrying a backpack would be a better choice...

12 days in May, after golden week. Might consider travelling from Nagoya to Tokyo.

Don't like the idea of going to as many places as possible.

Adding to evilernix’s list -

Nagoya > Takayama > Shirakawago > Kanazawa > Tokyo?
Takayama
Kanazawa - mini Kyoto, easy to go back to Tokyo. Only 2.5hrs via Shinkansen.
Legoland Nagoya

If into onsen,
Hirayu Onsen
Okuhida Onsen
Nozawa Onsen
Shibu Onsen
Bessho Onsen
Kaga Onsen
Wakura Onsen

If into nature,
Kiso Valley - Magome, Tsumago
Narai-juku
Kamikochi

Based on this, I think that it will be better to do a Arrival and Departure at Nagoya

Actually I only listed most of the common attractions. There’s more. Depends on what you want to do.

Nagoya is a city with many local cuisine. Some people prefer to try taking Shinkansen. Either Tokaido Shinkansen or Harutaka or Kagayaki. From Kanazawa, you can head to Tokyo or to Kyoto/ Osaka. Direct trains.

should i opt for JR 7 day pass or tokyo wide 3 day pass or JR East 5 day pass (will skip Fuji if on this pass)

Also, is my itinerary too tight?

Day 1: Arrive in evening, check in hotel
Day 2 -3: Gala Yuzawa (Looking at doing 2 days skiing/snowboarding)
Day 4: Nagano (Day trip to view snow munkehs and possibly dinner in snow hut)
or
Day 4: Fuji (Day trip for sightseeing)
Day 5-6: hang around in tokyo
Day 7: Shinjuku - Osaka
Day 8: USJ
Day 9: Kyoto
Day 10: Kobe? Nara?
Day 11: Dotonbori /Back to SG
