Need some advices. i will be bringing my family with my 3 year old daughter for a 8d 7n tokyo trip next year. We are planning to stay at Tokyo Disneyland Hotel, is staying at the hotel and visit the park during the last two day of our trips or once we arrive, we proceed to the Disneyland resort stay for 2 nights then proceed to the town area.

Its nearer to Tokyo(15min) and Akihabara(30min), so it depends on where is your main visit after Disney. If its mostly at the south of east side of Tokyo, then can carry on staying in Disney Hotel. Otherwise moving out to say Shinjuku may save you some time on the to and fro.

Thanks for the advises. I am thinking if my flight from sg to Tokyo arrive at the evening time. Maybe I will check in to Disney land hotel (walk around the park then have a early rest) If not then maybe I will stay during the last 2 day of my trip.

my daughter will not like most of those places. so as u can see..most places we going are cater to her :s13: will be going Ronppongi thou.

Odaiba nothing much? maybe will go there late afternoon.. and recommendation nearby and no need to travel too far beween Sanrio Puroland and Odaiba?

This is fine except that Disneysea rides more towards young adults, maybe you will like to consider Ghibli Museum (advance tickets needed), places you have missed are Ueno, Ginza, Tokyo, Ronppongi, Tokyo Tower, Sky Tree, Ikebukuro, Akihabara, Omotesando hill and ayoma, tokyo dome. Odaiba nothing much there, maybe few hours is enough in late afternoon

personally, i find odaiba very nice. i can spend almost the whole day there. lots of things to see and do there. the large open spaces and few people is a big contrast to the busy and crowded tokyo. the night view of rainbow bridge and statue of liberty is beautiful too

wow... u are covering quite a lot of places in one trip. seems like touch-and-go for some places. after factoring the long travel time and checking into hotels, u probably have half a day left for those places u are spending a night only

7-days JR pass is most likely going to be worth it since u have many long trips. u can work out the cost of these trips using hyperdia and compare it to the cost of the JR pass.

any reason for going Nagoya on day 7? coz it is actually along the way from Tokyo to Takayama. u may want to reshuffle the order a bit.

Thanks for ur advice!

How about this plan?

Day 1 - Arrival and spend in Tokyo
Day 2 - Nagoya
Day 3 - Takayama
Day 4 - Takayama
Day 5 - Kyoto
Day 6 - Kyoto
Day 7 - Kyoto/ Osaka
Day 8 - Kyoto/ Hiroshima or return to Tokyo
Day 9 - Tokyo
Day 10 - Tokyo
Day 11 - Flight from Tokyo back to SG

I am actually not very good in planning so please give me some advice. Most likely will try to get those early rides out to the next destination.

If I get the JR pass, does that means I do not need to pay for additional train service when i am going around each individual destination? As long as it is under JR company?

Many thanks!

yup, JR pass will cover all JR trains within the individual destinations. however, for some places, it is easier to get around by other means of transport that is not under JR. for example, most of the attractions in kyoto is accessible by bus. and for hiroshima, u have to get around using trams.

i would suggest returning to tokyo on day 8 to save money. coz u can activate ur 7-day JR pass on day 2 to go nagoya, and the JR pass ends on day 8. alternatively, if u really want to go hiroshima, then maybe u can cut short 1 day in kyoto. main idea is to make sure u depart and return to tokyo within the 7 days of the JR pass.

Hello, need some help on our itinerary as this is our first visit to Japan..

Day 1 (Fri)
Arrive at Narita Airport at 5.30pm
Check in at Park Hotel Tokyo
Visit Tokyo Tower
Dinner at Roppongi

Day 2 (Sat)
Tsukiji Fish Market (is it worthwhile to wake up so early to catch the Tuna Auction?)
Odaiba
Tokyo DisneySea (using the Starlight Passport as we are not the adventurous type, doubt will be taking much rides... in this case, should we give this a miss since we are not taking the rides anyway?)

Day 3 (Sun)
Meiji Shrine
Harajuku
Shibuya
Shinjuku

Day 4 (Mon)
Hakone day tour / Gotemba Factory Outlet
(we did not manage to book the Hakone day tour through agency.. is it easy for us to make our way there on our own?)

Day 5 (Tue)
Check out of Hotel
Travel from Tokyo to Kyoto
Check in luggage at Rihga Royal Hotel Kyoto
Higashiyama

Day 6 (Wed)
Kinkakuji
Nijo Castle
Arashiyama

Day 7 (Thu)
Nara day tour
Osaka (Dotonbori in the evening)

Day 8 (Fri)
Check out of Hotel
Travel back to Tokyo from Kyoto
Check in at Ryokan Sawanoya
Ueno
Asakusa

Day 9 (Sat)
Check out of ryokan
Last minute shopping
Return to SG (night flight)

We are thinking of going to Sanrio Puroland as well but not too sure which day to insert this in? Do we need to buy JR Pass? Any suggestion where to go for shopping on the last day?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hakone is easy if you just follow the standard route per this pass:
http://www.odakyu.jp/english/deels/freepass/hakone/pdf/map-freepass_hakone-en.pdf

Here's a model course you can follow too:
Hakone model sightseeing course | Model sightseeing courses | Odakyu Electric Railway

[depends whether u like to see such things. for me, the risk is too high. have to get up very early and take taxi there, and there is a limit on the number of ppl to watch the auction]

Odaiba
Tokyo DisneySea (using the Starlight Passport as we are not the adventurous type, doubt will be taking much rides... in this case, should we give this a miss since we are not taking the rides anyway?)
[odaiba is nice at night. maybe schedule disneysea for another day and stay till night at odaiba?]

Day 3 (Sun)
Meiji Shrine
Harajuku
Shibuya
Shinjuku
[going to be too packed. better to leave Shinjuku for another day. unless u are not really the shopping type and just want to go for a looksee]

Day 4 (Mon)
Hakone day tour / Gotemba Factory Outlet
(we did not manage to book the Hakone day tour through agency.. is it easy for us to make our way there on our own?)
[hakone itself would have taken at least a day, preferably 2-3days. hard to squeeze gotemba in. need to factor in the travelling time from Tokyo]

Day 5 (Tue)
Check out of Hotel
Travel from Tokyo to Kyoto
Check in luggage at Rihga Royal Hotel Kyoto
Higashiyama

Day 6 (Wed)
Kinkakuji
Nijo Castle
Arashiyama

[JR pass will be worth it since the trip to Kyoto and back on shinkansen would almost make up the cost of the 7-day JR pass

for shopping on the last day, u can visit Shinjuku if u didn't have time to do so on day 3. there is also ikebukuro and Ginza u can consider. ]

Thanks in advance for your help.

[I haven't been to the zoo, so dunno how long it will take. but u can scroll around ueno park after that, then go ameyoko for shopping. asakusa is also near ueno, so u may want to visit asakusa after ueno]

Day 3 - Hakone - Stay 1 night at Hakone

Day 4 - Meji Shrine/Harajuku/Shibuya
[if u are staying a night at hakone, by the time u get back to Tokyo and check into hotel, u probably only have half a day left. going to be very rush to cover these place.
I suggest visiting ueno+asakusa in day2, then akihabara and/or ikebukuro on day 4. then u can have day 6 for harajuku and shibuya. u could also spend more time at hakone and come back in the afternoon or evening]

Day 5 - Puroland/Shinjuku

Day 6 - Asakusa - Sensoji Temple / Tokyo Skytree / Akihabara or Ikebukuro?

I think 9D8N is just fine. have a relax pace and extra time in case there are places u want to spend more time at.

Is DAY 4 going straight from Hakone? You may want to check out Yokohama after leaving Hakone while returning back to Tokyo. Odawara to Yokohama is only 1hr away at 970yen. Its a nice place to hang out with your wife and kid. Less hectic and yet metropolitan. Your kid may like the Cup Noodle Museum and the Cosmo World there.

Ameyoko is in ueno, can just add it to day 2.
Shld not have problem covering Ueno and Asakusa in the same day.

Odaiba can be done in half a day, really depends on how much u want to cover. some ppl just go there in the evening to enjoy the night view of rainbow bridge and statue of liberty
