Can, but you will spend quite a bit of time on travelling. Kyoto some other time?

7 days in Tokyo and its surrounding is more comfortable and practical.

Woah... I just check that it's 4 hours plus from marital to Kyoto...
Alright thanks, I will consider your suggestion!!

start you research from japan-guide

Kanto Region Travel Guide
Kyoto Travel Guide
Hiroshima Travel Guide

These 3 places are far apart. You may want to consider dropping either Tokyo or Hiroshima, the 2 extreme ends of your itinerary.

Since April is Hanami season(Sakura), rooms may be harder to get or cost more. Air tix could be in short supply too. Do decide early.

Hi anyone departure from haneda airport before? I will be booking my air tickets soon. Am looking at midnight flights, however only available at haneda airport. Narita latest flight by JAL is 630pm. However when i check Haneda airport website, it seems like the shop close at 10pm or some 11pm the latest. Will i be able to buy some goodies before i board the plane?

After security scan and check those shops are still available, but those open to public close very early. My flight from Haneda to Singapore is 12.05am.

Theirs royce chocolate is cheaper than in hokkaido

Hi all experts! Will be going to kyoto with my bf from 18-20 dec. Taking first shinkansen there and first shinkansen back from tokyo. But feeling kinda lost as its our first time there.

Day 1:
-check in to Dormy Inn kyoto (any reviews) and leave around 10.30am
-fushimi inari
-higashiyama, yasaka shrine, yasaka pagoda and kiyomizu-dera
-ginkaku-ji
-pontocho for dinner
-back to hotel

Day 2:
-Arashiyama bamboo forest, Tenryu-ji and Togetsukyo Bridge
-Kinkaku-ji
-Nishiki market
-Nijo Castle
-back to Arashiyama for the night illumination!
-hotel

Day 3:
-checkout and back to Tokyo in the morning

Is my itinerary do-able or anything to improve on? Should i get the Kyoto bus pass?

My worry is that it will be winter then and nightfall will be much earlier.

TIA!

you taking first (non-Nozomi) shinkansen using JR Pass?

Else, first (Nozomi) shinkansen departs Tokyo at 5.37am and reaches Kyoto at 8.05am.

10.30am a bit late to go to all those places. even if you take cab in between the places in eastern kyoto also quite rushed i think.

usually eastern kyoto alone can take up one whole day, especially since you thinking of going to both kiyomizu and ginkaku which are at different ends, not forgetting the earlier closing times in winter.

day 2 is more manageable, if not enough time, maybe can drop nijo castle.

i will get the bus pass for both days for the convenience even if i'm only making 2 trips, since it's only 60 yen difference.

day 3, are you rushing back to Tokyo to catch a flight? otherwise, i suggest you can drop by fushimi inari quickly. it's just 5 mins from kyoto station. if you don't plan to hike up that far up the tori gates, i think 30 mins can be done.

thanks @saffronsatire for the quick reply! yes i'll be getting the jr pass since it makes more economic sense that way. is Ginkaku-ji worth visiting? my main purpose to visit kyoto was mainly to see kiyomizu-dera, fushimi inari, kinkaku-ji and arashiyama. Anyone has any idea how i can fit these places and how i should go around in 2days?

@holidayaddict, ginkaku was underwhelming for me. not magnificent like kiyomizu lol.

my personal preference:
kiyomizu > arashiyama > fushimi inari > kinkaku

Ok! In that case i'll do Fushimi inari and kiyomizu for day 1 and arashiyama and kinkaku-ji for day 2.

1 more thing. We will be taking the shinkansen to hakone from tokyo and will reach odawara around 7.30am. Do u think its possible to visit Hakone shrine and do the round trip before sunset?

ya enough time. think you reach earlier than me. that time i started the round course from Gora at 10.30am (after i went to leave my luggage at my ryokan) and by 3.30pm i was at Hakone-Yumoto already.

If you don't mind, you can actually stay in their apartment which is very convenient and near to the metro station. You can find them on airbnb.com

Nothing much in Odaiba and pretty far away from the main shopping/attraction except disney. You might want to consider staying at Sunroute Shinjuku, very decent hotel 5mins away from train station, takashimaya, is basically the heart of shinjuku. they do have airport limo bus to and fro from airport.

For day 4 - you can either do shinjuku/harajuku/meiji shrine/omotensando hill/shinjuku
or
Tsukiji market, ginza, tokyo tower, roppongi

For day 5 - Akihabara, Ueno, Zoo, tokyo

For day 6 - you can consider ikebukuro or 30mins train ride to yokohama (factory outlet), chinatown, red bricks shopping and ferris wheel

For souvenirs can be purchase in airport unless your flight very early in the morning or very late at night
