wat seems to be the problem?
maybe u can share wat u have so far?

if u have a rough itinerary, just book hotel base on it first. book those that allows cancellation so at least u have something to fall back on.

if u cant finalise ur itinerary at this point, how about just base ur entire trip in Tokyo? then u have more flexibility to change plan refine ur itinerary later on. only downside is that u can only make day trips to Mt Fuji or nikko instead of staying a night there.

with this itinerary, u can start booking ur hotels already. just book 1 night at kawaguchiko and the rest in tokyo.

but i would suggest staying a night in nikko. coz it is going to be very rush to do all those places in nikko within a day. need to consider the travelling time to nikko and the bus to the various attractions.

u dun need JR pass for the places u are going. it is easier to get to kawaguchiko by bus from shinjuku. and for nikko, there is nikko pass.

looks good :)
for nikko, i suggest visiting the world heritage shrines/temple one day, and waterfall and lake on the next day. because of the travelling time needed to get to the lake area, u may not have time for ueno park when u get back, especially since u still need to check in at shinjuku. but ueno can easily fit into day 10 since ueno is near asakusa, and u probably dun need a whole day for asakusa.

May I know based on this itinerary, what type of JR pass should i buy?
Also, would it be worth it to purchase other day trip passes like the 2 day Nikko pass and Mt. Fuji round trip ticket to complement the JR pass. I am planning to go to Kawaguchiko and 5th station at Fuji and still considering if I am going to stay for 1 night.

u dun need JR pass for the places u are going

it will be worth it to get a pass for nikko. there are various passes available. since u are going to lake chuzenji, u will need either the all nikko pass or the marugoto nikko pass
http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2358_002.html

will be good to stay at night in kawaguchi so u have more time to explore the area. there is a fuji-hakone pass that covers a round trip from tokyo to these 2 places. but since u are going only fuji, the pass is not going to be worth it. so just get single trip bus tickets from shinjuku to kawaguchiko

how about the JR east pass or JR Kanto Area Pass? Is it worth it for me to purchase these for my trip?

Thought of going to Hakone but the ropeway is suspended and would not stop at Owakudani. Accomodation at Kawaguchi is way above my budget though.

u can work out the travel fare using hyperdia and see if there is savings for using the passes.
http://www.hyperdia.com/

Kanto area pass may be worth it since it covers kawaguchi and nikko. the advantage is that u can take shinkansen to utsunomiya (for nikko) which is faster than the tobu line covered by the nikko pass. the downside is that train to kawaguchiko is slower than the bus.
also, the JR kanto pass doesnt cover the buses within nikko area. so u need to add a 2000yen 2-day bus pass for travelling around nikko.

JR kanto pass
http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2361_06.html

there is also a Mount Fuji round trip ticket which includes the train from tokyo and the bus from kawaguchiko to mt fuji 5th station.

Trouble planning itinerary - 16-25 OCT.

Hi all,

I have flights booked to Japan, I have about 10 days 9 nights. And was wondering to cover Kyushu, Kyoto, Tokyo and if time permits Tohoku.

My flight plan is:
16OCT SQ/Sin-Fuk arr 0835
25OCT SQ/Hnd-Sin dep 1640

I have a rough idea of the flow of travel. I'll most probably get a 7-day JR Rail Pass (Wide), and a 3-day All Kyushu-Pass

Day 1
Arrive at FUK
Explore - Canal city/Fukuoka tower (I'm unsure of what is a MUST-SEE/DO for this station)
Train to Kagoshima (Accommodation - 1 night)
Day trip to Ibusuki - Sand Bath/Hot Spring
Back to Kagoshima - Try horse sashimi/yatai's?

Day 2
Kumamoto/Aso/Beppu (Maybe 1 night?)

Day 3/4
Head to Osaka (Can afford a stopover at somewhere along the way - Hiroshima/Okayama)
Itsukushima Shrine/Torii Gate + Deer Island? or is Nara better?
Okuno Shima - Rabbit Island
Osaka (1 night)
Kyoto

Day 5/6
Tokyo - Shinjuku, Tsukiji, Roppongi, Ueno,
Yokohama Nissin Museum? Ghilbi Studio/Museum

Day 7
Shirakawa-go
Shiroishizao/Fox Village - Miyagi
Tohoku

Day 10
Depart Haneda
*If there's time, I'll squeeze in a trip to Narita village.

That's all I have planned for now. I'm not sure if it's too rush a trip, but I have only limited leaves and it's not easy to get such a long block, so I'm hoping to cover more ground and may return to visit those places for longer duration next time.

Point to note: I'm not a temples/museums kind of person. More for relaxing/sightsee/experience/foodie type of trip. If there's anything must-see or I missed out, I can visit again next time.
I don't mind fruit farms or farm stay experience as well.

Any advice for the remaining days/itinerary + accommodations will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hi guys! Planning my first trip to Japan in years... Travelling in mid-November. Main purposes is a bit of everything. Especially autumn leaves. Not really interested in anime / electronics / shopping. Will be getting JR Pass. Browsed through lots of stuff before drafting this up.

Hope to get some feedback on this itinerary ! Suggestions on places / food are always welcome! :)

D1 - TOKYO
Reach Narita Airport 2pm
Check in Shinjuku hotel
Shinjuku: bum around, dinner.
Additional: Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building (night view)

D2 - TOKYO
Meiji Shrine / Yoyoji Park
Harajuku / Takeshita street / Daiso
Shibuya
Additional: Icho Namiki Avenue / Meiji-jingu Gaien (late afternoon), Roppongi (night)

D3 - TOKYO
Tsukiji fish market
Possibly pass by Ginza
Asakusa: Sensoji Temple, Nakamise street
Ueno Park
Ameyoko street
Additional: tokyo skytree (night), Akihabara (probably not), Odaiba (night)
[odaiba is a bit out of place. it is actually near to Tsukiji. there is a river cruise from asakusa though, so u can consider taking it.]

D4 - TOKYO --> KYOTO --> NARA --> KYOTO
(anything to see in the morning that is near hotel?)
Check out hotel.
Shinkansen to Kyoto Station. Store luggage somewhere at Kyoto Station?

Shinkansen to Nara for day trip (any suggestions?)

Check in Kyoto hotel near Kyoto Station (6pm)
Dinner (Gion?)
[shinkansen from Tokyo to Kyoto takes abt 3hr, so u only have half a day left for Nara.
there is no Shinkansen train to Nara. just take normal train will do.
for Nara, the popular attractions will be Todaiji temple, deer park, and Heijo palace.]

D5 - KYOTO
Arashimaya
Bamboo groves
Tenryu-ji and Togetsukyo Bridge
Monkey park
Nijo Castle
Kinkakuji / Ryōan-ji
Dinner suggestions?
[think ur itinerary too packed. sun sets quite early during that period. it will be dark by 5+pm, so u cant pack too many sightseeing places in a day]

D6 - Osaka Day Trip
Shinkansen to Osaka
[not necessary to take shinkansen to Osaka. normal trains are more frequent and takes ard the same time to get to osaka]

Instant Ramen Museum
Nipponbashi (Den Den Town) / Namda area / Shinsaibashi / Dotonbori / Glico Running Man
Kuromon Ichiba Market
Tenmangu Shrine
Tenjinbashi-suji Shopping Street
Floating Garden Observatory of Umeda Sky Building (night)
Dinner suggestions?
[no plans for Osaka castle? maybe skip the shrine or shopping street to visit the Osaka.. at least something different. although there are many better castles in japan, but for ur trip, this is the only one that is convenient for u to get to.
gilco man in dotonbori looks better at night I feel. how about shifting that to night and visit umeda on another day? umeda is only 30min from Kyoto, so u can easily visit it on one of the Kyoto days, since there isn't much to do in Kyoto at night anyway]

D7 - KYOTO
Fushimi Inari Shrine
Sanjusangendo (optional)
Kiyomizu-dera
Higashiyama district (Lunch) / Sannenzaka / Ninenzaka / Maruyama Park
Yasaka Shrine
Nishiki Market
Gion Area (or other places to eat? Pontocho Alley? Kyoto station?)
Additional: Ginkakuji (Silver) via Nazenji Temple, Philosopher’s Walk

D8 - KYOTO --> TOKYO
Breakfast at Kyoto Station
Shinkansen to tokyo (AM), dump luggage somewhere.
Ginza or Tokyo station last minute shopping?
2:30pm head towards Narita for 6pm flight.

As you can tell, i'm a foodie too, suggestions are welcome!

Thanks guys/girls! :)

[going to be very rush. canal city and fukuoka tower will take u half a day. traveling to kagoshima is about 1.5 to 2hrs, and from kagoshima to ibusuki is another 2hrs. u will be spending a lot of time travelling and not much time to enjoy the sights.
I would suggest dropping kagoshima and ibuski and visit fukuoka on day 1. either stay a night in fukuoka, or head to kumamoto for the night]

Day 2
Kumamoto/Aso/Beppu (Maybe 1 night?)
[will be good to stay in Beppu for a night to enjoy the onsen]

Day 3/4
Head to Osaka (Can afford a stopover at somewhere along the way - Hiroshima/Okayama)
Itsukushima Shrine/Torii Gate + Deer Island? or is Nara better?
Okuno Shima - Rabbit Island
Osaka (1 night)
Kyoto
[check the ferry schedule for rabbit island. ferry are not very frequent, so it is going to be very different for u to plan for so many places in these 2 days. most likely u wun have time for Kyoto and osaka]

Day 5/6
Tokyo - Shinjuku, Tsukiji, Roppongi, Ueno,
Yokohama Nissin Museum? Ghilbi Studio/Museum

Day 7
Shirakawa-go
Shiroishizao/Fox Village - Miyagi
Tohoku
[shirakawago is in chubu region and the fox village is in tohoku region. it is going to take u more than half a day to travel between these 2 places. and both are not easily accessible, need to take bus. not going to be possible to squeeze these 2 places in a day.]

Day 10
Depart Haneda
*If there's time, I'll squeeze in a trip to Narita village.

sorry for sounding harsh, but u are trying to cover too many places in one short trip. u will be spending a lot of time on the train and buses. u can use hyperdia website or google maps to check out the distance and travelling time needed.

for 10 days, a comfortable pace will be to stick to one region (e.g. Kyushu only). but since u already bought airtickets to depart from HND, I suggest just stick to northern Kyushu (Fukuoka, Kumamoto, Beppu), Chugoku (Hiroshima, rabbit island) and Tokyo. can skip Kyoto and Osaka since u not into temples and Osaka is just another city

Since you're at Ginza, take the Marunouchi line one stop to Tokyo station.

Skytree bus is located at the ground floor, costs 220 yen if memory serves. If train it's Asakusa line to Asakusa, then transfer to Ginza line.

hi guys,
I would be going to Osaka for 14 days during dec/jan. I have a few questions to ask about my trip.
1. i am planning to stay in kyoto for first 9 days(2 days in a ryokan and 7 days in a airbnb apartment) and osaka for 5 days(somewhere ard namba), is it a good idea to spread my days like this?
For my trip, i planned to be a leisure trip visiting some onsen, sightseeing and going for a day ski tour.
2. is there any ski resort nearby kyoto for a day trip to recommend? what are the possible day trips i can go ?
3. if i were to travel ard these places which kind of passes should i get? (i am really confused with all the kansai passes and JR passes etc. )
4. i have a morning flight at 10am, is it possible i travel early morning from osaka (namba area)to the airport on a weekday morning? will there be jam? what time would be the first train and all
Thank you in advance! :)
