But must see the whole context and story as well. He has a very sweet tooth also, and the NEAT / normal habits like mightnight snacking plays a part as well, and meals were fast food etc. And his sleep habit is quite screwed up. (I mean, sleep also possibly affects cancer risk as well, so does overall daily stress load ie coming from work and family as well).

But generally, unless you really overdo it and your regular eating habits is bad........ , i think is generally safe, unless genetics really screw up and you are very very susceptible. That few gels or sugary beverages wont screw you up. I drink a fair bit of kang shi fu and choc snacks, though just for the past 2 years or so.....and i check myself on the meter every 2-4 weeks. But of coz that is with my genetics and muscle mass.
But of coz, since i am testing quite regularly, that means i am not "fueling blindly" without any feedback.
Heck, even my kid tests himself every few months, i am surprised when he first time told me he DIY pokes himself....as a kid.

Lionel Sanders developed pre-diabetes primarily due to a poor diet high in processed, sugary foods and excessive simple carbs, even with his high training volume, leading to his body struggling to process sugar effectively, causing blood sugar spikes and insulin resistance despite his endurance activity. His long-term habit of consuming large amounts of carbs (like sugars and processed items) during and after training, without understanding proper post-exercise nutrition, overwhelmed his system, contributing to his prediabetic state and related issues like fatigue and injuries.

Remember, this fella's training load probably is more than the few regular posters here combined. And look at his body and physique and body fat %, he most probably has really good genetics as well with obviously really really good metabolic health with a few dozen wins in ITU world championship and Ironman races. 😓 🤣
But of coz he eats like as if diet totally does not matter.
"I’ve eaten like garbage for years—fast food, candy, barely cooking, just fueling for training. I thought it didn’t matter. Turns out, it did. My first-ever blood test showed I’m sitting at a 5.9 A1C, right on the edge of pre-diabetes "

You never kena such state right? Even though you did not specifically trained for it and just ran like 2 hrs for your long runs.

good start at 10k. i was showing this to my wife last night. He is a good example to dismiss all excuses.

Can show to your wife.

Actually if starting, just 5k would do. It is still long distance and relies heavily on the aerobic system, stimulates the muscoloskeletal system as well, more than enough dosage.

Can also do more regularly and with little risk of mental / physical burn out over the long run , if wanna top up with cycling (more muscular stimulus esp if lower cadence) then lagi better. I mean, heck, we live in hot and humid SG, even i cannot tahan.

Trainer road has strength standards for advanced cyclists they say represent the point at which the effort and extra muscle mass required to get stronger is not worth the benefit delivered:

Deadlift: 5 Reps 150% BW
Back Squat: 5 Reps 125% BW
Bench Press: 5 Reps 90% BW
Barbell Row: 5 Reps 90% BW
Pull/Chin-Ups: 15 Reps
Military Press: 5 Reps 55% BW

TT 15km this morning. 60m33s. Maybe got chance to complete 2026 challenge before CNY??!!

Slight adjustment to running program since Dec. Longer daily 12k easy runs but at strict Z2 pace, under 130bpm avg, 135 max at the end of run. Weekly threshold workout 5X2K. Alternate week 25K progressive. Alternate week 15K max effort.

Easing the load on daily runs and pushing harder on the workout days. Body seems to like it. Time will tell.

Not tired after daily runs ie got run and no run no diff :ROFLMAO:.
And recovery much faster after threshold workout. Body is also generally less tired and no "low-battery" feeling in the afternoon given all my runs are in the morning. My unscientific body feel.

While back in SG, i started running at 530, then 6, then 7.. after 730 it's too hot.

Once ran in the evening at Macritche, sweat buckets..
most of the "sweat" is condensation cos u ran in a extremely humid place with a lot of vegetation

I have been wanting to say so and post too...... Not sure if coz of older age, suits us better. So, in the end didnt post else controversial. Only issue is, coz i do cycling as well, so not really easy to tell.
Or maybe is coz there is only that much RECOVERY that we can take for our schedule, unless if we really totally retire ($$$).
Coz i have also learnt something regarding my kid's recovery.

Got a few vids that i posted, be it running, cycling or even cali / bodybuilding stuff.

Lessen the load on easy (definitely applicable for glassdoor), continue with the workouts. Vary your workouts, train the few energy systems, including the top end (tho very surgical strike method).

My running never really got worse. I mean never really PB that often, but from the looks of it didnt slide significantly. Can tell one lah.

But then i am the lower distances fella so can only say so for these less than 10k stuff.

Strength also responding well, my number of sets / reps in a week really not high one, but i make sure the next day i'd feel a wee bit of soreness, sometimes even extending to the 2nd day 48hrs, but third 72hrs need to be no soreness.
Last year i remember early 2025 i was only like 40kg 8 reps split stance deadlift (say 10-20% pressure on the supporting leg). Even then 8 reps is a stretch.
This time Jan 2026, i have been hitting 10 to even 12 reps on a good day when i wanna push, 60kg 6 minibands (i measured ~ 10kg at the top of the range when i deadlight one band). So around time to jump to 70kg. Technically well in intermediate territory (strengthlevel.com, as rough guide). I hit and do 70kg "easily" or around 1 x BW i shd be pretty good for strength reqyured fir cycling liao. Or maybe 8 bands / 80kg coz the tension differs when stretched/unstretched vs dumbells/barbells/machines.

Will never be able to do this. Esp with my scoliosis?
Axial load on the spine too high. Risky, think will pecah.

Now converted from split stance deadlift, probably equals to 110kg at best

KNN even for his age/weight (weight ard mine), need lifting belt liao. But heng my grip strength i got train, one arm tahan 70+kg no issue.

Maybe it's just me. I am sort of addicted to the sweating boatloads feeling. :ROFLMAO:
Downside is must sun dry the shoes...
Sun dry only? When my shoes are wet with sweat, is washing time. So it's any run more than 70 minutes, even easy pace, high chance is I have to wash.
