Straits Times today has an article on heat injury.

Between 2008 to 2020, two thirds are young adults between 18 to 39 and are male. 14 per cent ICU cases and 2 RIP. My ex colleague triathlete one of them i guess (ICU case).

I mentioned before. One early sign is you stopped sweating. I suspect this is a point of critical dehydration. I experienced a few times. Being a heavy sweater, my palms will be wet with sweat. Then suddenly I realize they are dry. Immediately stopped and seek hydration.

For me is also it "suddenly" becomes too hot. Probably also somewhat related to the perspiration (less cooling).

I kena once before, not during exercise but kite flying at MB area, which is a fair bit warmer at the rooftop area. I was trying to retrieve my big kite also, so got physical exertion. After 30 mins of trying.....finished liao, but felt super duper warm. Heng finished, so could take a rest + pour water on myself to further cool.
Those times the RH% also not high coz 3-4pm, so can evaporate one.

Then during my first 10k fast + PB attempt, i also somewhat kena.....not as bad as the kite flying that time, but still i could feel that the heat was a bigger drag than my breathing/cardio effort, which of coz then signalled me to stop and pour water. After that no more of those evening runs during warm months....in fact even zone 2 longer runs i won't do one, just not comfy and not for me.

A lot of things.....

Another vid

Watched the first 3 minutes of this. This guy quite worth watching. But again these are mechanics for elite runners who marathon pace are in the low 4min/km for the full marathon. Probably applies to the 3:30 FM runners in our thread. He correctly mentioned the concept of 180 step/min came from Jack Daniels studies. And these studies looks at elite runners only. We got to decide if these applies to us. And our muscle skeletal system needs to built and adapt over time so our natural cadence easy pace will be around 170.

Great that he is not against heel striking, coz by now, enough studies has established heel strikers are not more injury prone than forestrikers. Even coach Sage has finally stopped preaching forestriker as the gold standard, as he finally accepted he is going to be a heel striker, and no point to change his biomechanics.

The thing is I rmb signing up for sundown 2024 to make up for 2023 pulling out halfway with plantar but now can't find the email of confirmation and online also no dates of the event. My colleague also remembered signing up with me but he too also cannot find the email.
i read from a running group in WA, that Runrio is refunding those who signed up early last year. I guess you might have received an email regarding the refund.

Now don't know will there be a Sundown in the middle of the year? Likely not. Guess it'll only be one FM road race this year for us.
