At 12, that is seriously scary
Interesting fruit of thought, this year US olympic marathon trials youngest applicant was 22, Ava Nuttall.

https://worldathletics.org/athletes/united-states/ava-nuttall-14972783 >> 2.35

Her 5k >> 16.15 minute

But here comes the crazy part, Elizabeth Leachman. >> https://worldathletics.org/athletes/united-states/elizabeth-leachman-15126002

Legend, 16 y.o., 15.25 minute 5k. Qualified for olympic trials 5km.

So, for Evan to come close, she needs to cut another 1 min 30 sec off her 5km in the next 4 years.

Probably achieve something like 1hr 16 min HM too.

While juggling studies in the process, not easy.

Also her training is more geared towards long distance sustain rather than fast twitch burst.
I just digged a bit more, wow both these fellas have a 13:2x 5k road timing.

Like Jakob Ingrebrigtsen is a 13:1x runner, for quick ref......but of coz he is not known for his 5k but still very quick nevertheless (world best few dozens of them is sub 13 PR i think). But just as a quick reference to put things into better perspective.

I believe shd be very similar story for the 10k
Jakob is 12.48, could be faster than that now especially after breaking the 3k WR.

I think 10k fitness matters when you're tired in a triathlon since it's longer.

Jakob should be < 12.40 min 5k shape, considering he beat Aregawi in the 3k. Jakob ran 7.17.55, Aregawi ran 7.21.28 in the same race.

Aregawi later went on to run 12.43.66 in the 5k diamond league.

This means Jakob can easily PB and beat his 12.48 time anytime now, since he is much faster than he appears to be. That's why can olympic gold without focusing on the 5k.

That means he is probably top 10 liao. I think he mentioned he wants to break more records right?

He is trying to break everything from 1.5k, mile all the way to marathon. Including 3k steeplechase. :ROFLMAO:

El Guerrouj WR timing is hard to beat. His 3rd fastest 1.5k time beat Jakob's current 1.5k.

But good (athlete's) mindset lah, esp at their level.

Like Kipchoge's mantra, no human is limited.

anybody gave up running for cycling? cycling can go more places like more fun...

Just do both if you have the time and find it fun....... Running can be brought down to more manageable mileages, that way you wont lose the running specific neuro adaptations but aerobic fitness can be further ramped up.

Another thing is that it wont be as monontonous. Eg for me, no such thing as off season, it just continues at training levels no problem. So you continue to improve, even if very slowly.

One very big specifc plus i consider is the cooling that cycling brings, so basically it is more suitable here. The longer/harder rides are still manageable. You can also bring along bottles and nutrition with very little penalty and also drink as you please.
