do you have any ankle injuries before? which part of the ankle do you feel sore?
i hope i can help you as i had pretty serious old right ankle injuries since young (endless sprains from football, army, tennis, rolling my ankles due to uneven flooring, etc)
i stop running once my right ankle does not feel good and i tend to prefer firmer midsoles to manage my weak right ankles better.
Thanks for reaching out. I don't think I have had ankle injuries before. Area is like on my foot, right below the bony part of my ankle (not sure if there's a name for it). I guess it feels like I have been putting too much weight on it?

I have a question for runners here.

I am now taking to running every morning as I am on leave and have more spare time. These few days, I wake up with my legs feeling pretty sore, which usually goes away after I am done with my morning jog (nothing far, about 3.6 km).

I am also, as I am typing this, having an ache in my right ankle. Curious if this is normal, if there's anything I should be concerned about or keep in mind, and whether it's okay to continue running daily.

I am aware of the usual advice - listen to your body, rest if you have to, but I am also not very sure if this is my body's way of telling me I need to take it easy, or that I am out of shape and it's normal to feel this way. I do enjoy running, and would like to continue as much as possible before I have to go back to work in another 2 week's time (where I then go back to jogging mainly on weekends).

Thanks all for your responses.
You are adding load from your normal regime. Try to dial down a little and see how. By reducing distance for each run or take one or two for rest?

Never had ankle injury before, which i believe i am pretty neutral runner. But that's was until I started using Vaporfly NExt % 2 for one of my long run. Very unstable shoes. i just reduce mileage when I am using it,, and slowly built more mileage with it and finally was able to wear it in the recent SCSM without any issue.

Some more not say run on hard and uneven concrete pavements. It's on the treadmill. Run more than 10km/h speed and can feel it in my right kneecap le.
Have u try gel on your knee

Try landing with knee slightly bend. A bended knee upon landing will activate muscle to share the load with the joints.

The other thing is since your knee is already injured, got to run in reduce load, and for your case is reduce mileage for a while and then slowly increase once you feel you are ready,

And then the usual advice of strengthening the muscles that support knee extension. Can google that. And watch kneesovertoeguy youtube channel.

are you a rear, mid or front foot striker?
what shoes are you wearing that such aches/pain/discomfort occurs?
you can do a few experiments,
1) same shoe, wear an ankle guard and do the same running intensity around same distance;
2) same shoe, slower pace run with no ankle guard around same distance;
3) softer midsole running shoe;
4) same distance, same speed and see if the pain/soreness/discomfort appear again around the same area

the leg sores and aches could also mean the muscles around these areas are not developed to handle the strain. Happened to me before when i started running on a new pair of running shoes.

do test out different scenarios

hope its useful.

Thanks all for your responses.

I also don't really know how to describe it. Think of it like an ache from walking too much. It's not a sharp shooting pain of any sort.

May come to that. I dunno if I am alone in that I find running to be quite addictive, and a great way of starting the morning, like you have accomplished something in the morning. Now that I am on leave and not working, it feels kinda weird when I wake up and don't do something.

Prior to this, I typically run maybe once or twice a week, since I work pretty long hours and don't really have the time or energy to do so on weekdays. Last week, I ran about once every other day, and was looking to up my frequency this week.

The funny thing is that on my rest day, my legs felt even more heavy and lethargic, but it could also be due to me not having run for some time, so it's my body getting back into shape.

Could be. I don't really know enough about the intricacies of running to be able to comment more on this. I do run the same route and distance every day. Might that contribute in some way?
If you are really concern about the ankle issue, go google for a physio that offers video gait analysis to pick up any issue.

If I am not wrong, UTMB need to gather points form various other races like the one you just participated. If you applied, mean you have gather enough points liao?

Right now, my goal is just to tackle marathon distance, coz this I already feel my limit is stretched.

PS, followed you back on Strava.

Last year's batch of supernova 2 was still good. This recent sale I bought the ultra-bounce to try, $41 nia.

Yes, you will only get points from other ultra-marathons that are UTMB recognised. So if this was your first ultra, its not possible that your UTMB application will be successful.

Finally got vid.

Still jinxed area, joke driver again like that time where 4 fellas RIP at 0545h, cannot be buang until whole car front gone at the stupulated speed.
5th major accident long that stretch when i moved in since 2010.

Very near to where i always cross (within 100m) and also same time for some of my morning sessions (just before the sky's horizon begins to turn bluish at 0600h nowadays)
