Really no more contender liao. Kiptum 2.00.35 recently was our mankind's best shot.

See what kipchoge has up his sleeves, hope his age he still can tahan, no joke also. See if kiptum's pressure spurred him to have something special in him left, for Paris Olympics.
Life goes on, we must remain positive.
Don't underestimate mankind potential. Over the past 10 years, a number of marathon records got broken. The exception being 1500, 3000m. Those are way harder to achieve.

There's also potential runners that can beat the timings if they transit to full marathon. But for now, just sit back and enjoy.

Olympics > I wouldn't vouch for good timing, the running course not so spectacular and also no pacers.
out of curiosity, what are you running with for the past 1.5yr?
ASICs gel jolt 3, durable but not good for racing

Thanks for sharing.

Ya probably 3rd shift excess stocks instead of fake.

Do you like its plush cushioning? The reviews talk until like have dragon have phoenix. :s13:

Might consider getting the China version for walking.

bought this purely for walking and casual wear (with jeans). today is my first run with them. no complaints. don't know how the authentic ones feel anyway.
but i had both non authentic and authentic versions of brooks hyperion tempo. Everything about the shoes are the same except midsole. They feel the same initially, the non authentic one loses its bounce/responsiveness after a short while.
Spoke to a seller while trying to buy the non authentic version of the new Brooks Glycerin 21, he promised that all materials used will be from authentic Brooks shoes, the fitting will also be same as authentic ones. I deduce they may use older version of the midsole materials or different formulation to make these non authentic versions.
is it worth it? its always hit and miss. sometimes one will get a good deal, sometimes it fails terribly.
just sharing my thoughts and experience on this.

2 x 3km quite a popular workout in ASICS, if you do it with 1 min rest in between, it will usually be equivalent to 5km race pace at hard effort.

If you pace with a faster runner going 1 min/km faster than you, quite easy to burn out and affect your overall pace. Learnt this the hard way in FFRC, 25-30s/km faster than my average pace gave me a stitch 1.5-1.6km in.

I think optimal pacing will be 10-15s/km without burning out, enough to be behind the person comfortably and pushing yourself to get better. But getting destroyed is also good to motivate you to be better long term once in a while, wouldn’t do it so often since it can affect your overall runs.

thanks for sharing. 👍🏻
my original habit is to run a hard 6km, rest for about 5min. then a return 6km run at zone 2-3. Thats how i managed to improve from unable to sustain a full 5km to complete a full 10km and 16km.
My running habit is derived from experiences in my teenage years of doing intervals, just vary the distance and adapt the pacing according to ones condition.
i can only wish i am younger and in better condition to enjoy repetitive , more intensed shorter runs. old liao. 🤣

Ermm for you, it's best to do 12km all the way at zone 2 without rest, if your goal is to run full 10km/16km. This should be your staple/go to run. No need to be fast, if you feel that you can slightly increase the pace to zone 2.5 (steady state run) during the run especially at the end, you can try doing that.

As for hard runs, I think you can still go for intervals as a separate run maybe once a week. With your hard run 6km timing, extrapolate the target race pace timing for your intervals and do a 5 x 1km and work up to 7-8 x 1km at the same pace or faster pace, whichever works best for you. This means you don't need to aim for so fast, something like 5.30 - 5.40/km is a good goal to aim for.

Or you can try lactate threshold, where you run the 6km at zone 3, at a pace of 10-15s/km slower than your actual 6km runs and slowly improve that timing across the weeks. But note that this is usually the less intense method and slower speed gains, but give more stability. You wouldn't downslide so much if you don't run because zone 3 builds better base than intervals.

8 x 888m intervals 100Plus Promenade w/ 1min rest in between (ASICS)
  • First set a bit too fast since I paced with Singapore Sport School xmm, she was slightly ahead of me. But should be around the same pace since she started her run earlier.
  • Second set, slow down since I realised not good to pace too ahead and can't finish the sets.
  • Third set, felt the stitch about to come so I slowed down.
  • Fourth set, asked to take a group photo after the run so rested more, this helped me to slowly lose the feel of the stitch.
  • Sixth set, was actually able to run this set fast but decided to slow down and pace a fellow ASIC runner since I can tell he was struggling a lot.
  • Seventh/Eighth set, just push through since nothing to lose
Thankfully xmm didn't end up lapping me even though I had to take group photo and slow down considerably a lot. Much better run than the FFRC one.

newbie question here.. when you achieve a new limit, how long do you maintain / exercise at that limit to get used to it before pushing your body further?

or is it safer to train at something like 80% limit?

Yo, if i read your other posts correctly and you are still new to exercising and wanna be safe, plus just training for your IPPT to pass, ie started not more than 2 months, can just keep it to a lower level like 70% of max heart rate. This is even after taking into account of cardiac drift, meaning that your HR naturally rises over here in SG due to the body heating up during exercising and there is no more heat sinking in your body left, hence the HR drifts up.
Issue is , knowing your max HR needs some testing on your part. But anyway, if you are able to mutter 10 words, that is around zone 2.5, you are good.
Just keep at this for a few months like 6 months....weekly 3 times and after 3 months you can ramp it up to 4, 5 or even 6 times weekly, sure can get 12 mins 30 seconds (5.12 pace for 12.5 mins) for 2.4k after half a year. Keep the distance less than 4km, no issue at all. The beginner gains are pretty easy to get. This is pretty safe. Walk fast and/or jog, your pick. Don't really need any timetable or serious training or other types of training.

ps. Dont try to train when it's warm, ie no later than 8am in the morning nowadays or earlier than 8pm, is very safe one. Can enjoy too, can be learnt to enjoy, much easier journey as well.
